Terrible. Just terrible news.

I've always had an atypical outlook on life. As a child, I would think long and hard for hours about what it would be like to grow old. I have always looked forward to growing old, one day becoming a cranky old man and being a lovable nuisance to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. My granddaughter often sighs and says, "aww PawPaw" and giggles about my nonsensical ways. So I'm getting there. Growing older has been fun for me.

Well, this is the side of growing older that sucks--the part where all the people that I've known, enjoyed and enriched my life in so many different ways pass on before I do. Yeah, Carrie Fisher was simply an actress and not one who enjoyed a stellar movie career. But for me, she was that feisty, pretty heroine who fought a galactic evil with all her might and won against overwhelming odds. Ms. Fisher's role was purely fictional but she played a hero that brightened my heart for many many years. And still does.

Goodbye Leia. The Force will be with you. Always.

I felt so in sync with your post...had me misty eyed.....smh she meant a lot and her role as Princess Leia was a strong one I remembered from my childhood....

Wow, that was the 1st shot of her in the movie right? Sleeping. Now on to her next role up above.

I had to watch ANH.

That's when Luke comes to rescue her.

The first scene is of her hand inserting plans into r2 unit.
Then her face in hallway.
Then shooting at stormtrooper
A few more scenes.

RIP Carrie Fisher. As much as she was a part of my childhood due to the Star Wars movies, I think I respected and liked her even more for being so open about struggling with bipolar disorder and helping to reduce the stigma associated with it. That took courage.
