Carrie Underwood’s football-star boyfriend is calling for a timeout.

The two have been tight for several months: Tony Romo flew to Nashville to celebrate the American Idol cutie’s 24th birthday recently, and she returned the favor, flying to Dallas to celebrate his 27th.

But now, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback has told Underwood that he wants to bench their relationship during the football season, according to the National Enquirer. Football season begins in September and lasts until January.

“Carrie thought that they were moving closer to a more committed relationship,” a source tells the tab. Romo asked Underwood to give him space for his career once before, and she did, but this time, the request has hit a sour note with her, says the source, who adds, “Carrie wants a firm commitment from Tony.”

Don't want to rain on anyones parade but did you notice where the story came from? Wouldn't put much on it.

They are only puting fire under the rumor started by Joe Simpson. Anything to sale $$$$ and look at the peolpe that buy into it. Tony is laughing at them all.

I don't believe this for a second, but if it were true I'd be disappointed that he doesn't have (1) the will power, or (2) the intelligence to both hold down a serious relationship and play football.

Romo just needs to put a halt to the public sighting's during the season.
I agree that he needs to focus but he can have it all with little rules to live by.
Rule #1.-After sex...staying the night is optional.
Rule #2.-Carrie can not attend a Cowboys game this season and Romo can not attend a Underwood concert.-Everyone who has seen Romo singing on stage knows that he should be nowhere near a stage again-.
Rule #3.-No booty calls past 9pm and 3 days before gametime. Gotta save the legs baby!
Now if Romo can follow these 3 simple rules then he will lead the team and his budding relationship with Ms. Underwood to a successful and fruitful ending.

I think I said it and will keep saying it.

I respect what he's doing - of course, he had me at Carolina playing-wise, but, my concern rapidly became his desire to be in the spotlight. Bill said he'd talked to Romo about a handful of things -- and you know the relationship thing was probably among them (BTW - how many of you would like to have THAT talk with Parcells?)

Honestly, a guy like Romo can't be splitting time travelling all over the world chasing Underwood's underthings while also focusing on his development as a QB.

But while the ''official'' explanation hints at the couple ''taking a breather'' so Romo can concentrate on the upcoming season, my source insists ''it's really over.''
Underwood -- who recently flew to Dallas to celebrate Romo's 27th birthday -- is said to be devastated about the split -- especially since ''she thought things were moving in exactly the opposite direction,'' said the source.
