Carson Looked Like Diggs When He Was a Rookie

I know you guys are upset that Carson gave up a touchdown, but he played really well. This is what I thought Eric Scott was gonna turn into last year with all the hype around him being a steal.

The NUMBER ONE annd TWO indicators for successful CB play in my eyes is (1) getting their head around and (2) anticipating routes.

Being comfortable enough to get your head around means you are on tight coverage and feel comfortable with your body position. Carson almost got 3 picks today. 2 of those were because he got his head around with enough time to break to the ball. He has that same coordination that Diggs and Bland have.

Go watch the first pass thrown to his side. He anticipated it and jumped it but it was a lob pass, yet he still recovered to get the tackle. If it had been a bullet pass, pick 6. He doesn’t an EXCELLENT job balancing when to jump and when not to. Reminds me a lot of Diggs his rookie season. Diggs had a lot of ‘almost’ plays.

Don’t sweat the touchdown, it was a beautiful play and a dime of a throw.

Guys, I think they did it again…that is our 4th corner and he’s a hawk in the making. I couldn’t be more stoked about our CB room.

The upside is absolutely there, but as happened with Diggs we will have to take the bad with the good year 1. Hes going to continue to get challenged, and it could be an interesting matchup this week as he could see a high number of snaps against Olave if the Cowboys don't have Diggs follow him around.

please.Diggs would have got 3 picks yesterday if he was the rookie,a DB has to have instincts and be in the right place to get INTs.

I think the best thing from Carson yesterday is the way he's going to compete and sort of the edge he plays with.

That was known coming out of college, but it was good to see it yesterday too.

He looked decent, but was able to constantly play downhill.

he was playing almost exclusively off coverage against a QB who couldn't get the ball downfield. It's about the easiest game context a corner can play.
This is a fair point. Carson passed the test, but this wasn't that hard of a test compared to normal NFL standards either. The potential seems to be there, the attitude for a shut down CB seems to be there, but its way too early to declare victory with this kid. Hes going to get thrown at a lot in the coming weeks, hes get humbled at some point, and we are going to learn alot about him from that.

In his entire rookie season, Diggs got 3 picks total… Cmon man at least do some research instead of acting like rookie Diggs was some kind of deity. I bet before Bland comes back Carson has at least 1 pick, which will pace him the same as rookie Diggs. Carson showed plenty of instincts and covering ability yesterday. They held the Watson to 160 yards passing and he had lots of garbage time and shell coverage when they got way ahead. That’s extremely impressive.

Carson was getting his hands on the football a lot to start that game. I expected that he’d eventually get an interception.

But it looked to me like the defense changed up their coverage after getting out to that big lead.

He was up the stat sheet for tackles too. Solid fundamental tackles, no getting juked and bustin an ankle nonsense.

I agree. I remember Diggs being in great coverage as a rookie and still giving up some plays to pefectly placed passes. He also showed some potential flashes on near interceptions where he just barely missed. I think Carson played a great game considering that it seemed that Cooper was playing on his side for a good portion of the game.

He handled himself, but lets slow down. Watson is not a good QB at this time.

Diggs dropped a lot of balls his rookie year. IIRC it was around 11 - 14. And he used it as motivating for the following year saying it would never happen again.

Although this is true, those saying he had excellent game are exaggerating. It was a good start with a few things to clean up. The move Cooper made to blow by him for what should have been an easy TD (but was an overthrow because of pressure) is a good example of a play that Diggs also would have allowed as a rookie and even in his second season. We should expect for there to be mistakes along the way for Carson, but it was a decent start.

dropping a pick is what most DBs do

Remember, if they had real good hands they would be WRs
