"Circus atmosphere" surrounding Bengals this season disgusted Palmer
1/26/2011 8:30:54 AM
A "circus atmosphere" made a difficult situation even worse during the Cincinnati Bengals' dismal season in 2010, causing frustration for quarterback Carson Palmer and many of his hard-working teammates and coaches. According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, one of the reasons Carson Palmer has demanded a trade is his disgust with the atmosphere surrounding the team this season. And of course Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco were the ringmasters of this particular circus.
According to sources, several players, including Palmer, want a more serious approach to football without constant controveries and distractions. That means the players want a more low-key approach with an emphasis on winning rather than garnering headlines.
Clearly head coach Marvin Lewis wants the same thing, as evidenced by his war of words with Ochocinco since the regular season ended. Lewis has finally grown tired of Ocho's act and has made it pretty clear he doesn't want to see him in a Bengal uniform next season. And there is no chance of Owens returning despite a decent performance on the field.
Perversely, Ochocinco has suddenly announced that he plans to legally change his name back to Chad Johnson and wants to return to Cincy next season. "I don't have a choice right now," Ochocinco said. "I have done enough with the Ocho thing, and its been fun." Unfortunately, it hasn't been nearly as much fun for his teammates and coaches.
