Looks like it's going to be my new home town. House in NY will be going up for sale within the next month or so. I was in Cary this weekend doing some home shopping. Loved the city. Loved the homes I saw.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

:)

What a beautiful part of our country. I am jealous. :p: I hope this move will bring you much happiness, Juke.

You will love the people of NC.

Cheers my friend!

I asked my geography professor in college (who has been all over the world) if he could choose a place to live where would it be. He said some place in North Carolina. Good luck with your move. It can be stressful and exciting at the same time.

The hill country of western North Carolina is just beautiful, every bit as pretty as the Shenandoah Valley where I live...

Cary is more of a town than anything. I don't know all of your background, but even in Charlotte it can drive me a little bonkers sometimes because of how slow everything is.

It is a wonderful area and not too far from beaches, and bigger cities. College basketball is huge for many people that live around there so get used to it.

Personally, I could never live somewhere without major sports teams nearby.

Cost of living is pretty good, and crime is minimal from what some of my family that lives out there tells me.

Congrats on making the move.

Thanks for the responses and well wishes.

NY has simply become tooooooo much of a grind.

$16,500 per year in real estate taxes. Yep, as in $1375 per month.

Nutz.

That said, it'll be an adjustment, for sure.

Other than moving away from family, my biggest regret is that I'll have to rebuild my dog training business from scratch.

As far as the people I've met in Cary, seems to me like none of them are originally from Cary. :)

What line of work are you in and will that work transfer or are you looking for a new job? Or are you doing the dog training full-time now?

In any case, I hope you truly can ratchet back the grind if that is your desire. Exciting time.

Offset printing. Not the industry to be in right now. Kinda like being in the men's hat industry in 1960. Not a great future.

I can pretty much be semi-retired...

And thanks...yes, ratcheting back is the plan...this way I can spend more time here handing out violations/warnings. ;)

Ha! This is why we bought out house in lower Connecticut. We almost bought a house in Ryebrook, NY. That house was half the size of the house we bought in Connecticut due to the taxes alone. Our taxes are less than half of what the Ryebrook taxes were.

Connecticut charges you taxes on your car every year which is weird, but it's only a few hundred bucks. The real estate taxes in NY can be up to 35% to 50+% of your mortgage payment depending on how good of an interest rate you have.

Good luck in NC!

Good Luck in your new location.

No more great NY pizza but you can get all of the Pimiento Cheese sandwiches you want and can wash it down with some good old sweet tea on a hot afternoon. :D

Lived there for a while. Wonderful place. SAS is king in Cary. Dr. Goodnight, the owner of SAS, owns like half of Cary it seems :D

My allergies kicked in when I lived there...that might be something to watch out for.

I enjoyed hanging out at the Carolina Ale Houses there. Wild Wing Cafe isn't too bad either, and they have live music on Friday/Saturday nights usually.

As someone said, this is big time hardcore college basketball country. North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State...

There is one pro team there, the Carolina hockey team.

Sports talk radio there isn't too great from what I remember.

All in all, I rather liked living there. Enjoy, and best wishes with your move.

I've been there a few times but always on business so I never get to see the sights. Good luck and you'll fit right in with that accent. :laugh1:

My real estate taxes are 130% of my mortgage. Ain't that amazing?

Ah, you sit corrected.

I pioneered the "Pizza via Fed Ex" plan when I was dating someone who lived out of state. Buy the pizza in the afternoon...run home and freeze it. Run to fedex 5 hours later...and it arrives the next morning...still semi frozen.

I actually found a decent pizza place in Cary called...NY Pizza. :D

Stayed at the Umstead of SAS Pond Drive or whatever the heck it's called.

As long as I have my DTV, I couldn't care less about local sports.

I can get WFAN on my computer, so sports radio will be no problem.

And thank you very much for the input and well wishes.
