Good Luck in your new location.

No more great NY pizza but you can get all of the Pimiento Cheese sandwiches you want and can wash it down with some good old sweet tea on a hot afternoon. :D

Leaving NY is a little strange at first but you'll get used to it quickly. I definitely don't miss NY winters, all the traffic or the cost of living.

I've been down here so long that it's almost a shock when I have to go back and see the cost of things there. :p:

Good luck with the move!

I've Played ball there a few hundred times. Went to football camp at NC State for 7 years.

It's as nice as any place I've been when it comes to quality of life. Low crime, tons of college sports, just down the road from Charlotte and NASCAR is king. 2/3 ofthe drivers live in NC or have homes there. you're very close to "nags head" area which is beautiful and quiet. Your not far from myrtle beach and NC has some of the best Golf in the United States.

Cary is just outside of raliegh and has some very nice homes. Hell I bet your mortgage could be close to a 3rd of what you were paying in NY in mortgage and taxes.

My real estate taxes are 130% of my mortgage. Ain't that amazing?

What? With NY real estate prices?!?!? When did you buy your house? In the 50s or 60s? :laugh2:

Oh and if you get the chance. Drive over to where they make Hatteras sport fishing yachts and take a bunch of pictures and video for me.

My NY home is 56 years old.

The ones in Cary are considered old if they're 10 years old.

Think of it this way, you get to go to a pretty location as I think it is around the outer banks.

Seriously though, I hope you enjoy the move and new location.

I would really like to move but just don't have the money for it.:

Isn't that ironic....I don't have the money to not move.

And thanks for the well wishes...big stuff indeed.

Right smack dab in the middle of the state. Wonderful location for college BB,not too far from Charlotte, where you MUST find a way to join whoever wants to meet up for the Panther/Cowboys game this year. Not too far from the Atlantic, and not too far from where I live over towards the far western NC area. Lots to do if you love the outdoors. Lots of places along the lower eastern seaboard within easy driving distance,i.e. Charleston,Savannah,on down the coast. You should enjoy it!

I would imagine you will save a ton of money.

Not just from the taxes and cost of your place of residence.

But also all of the little things. I have heard that NY is crazy in terms of getting a parking place and/or having to pay crazy amounts of money when you do get a parking place.

Plus the cost of basic items being higher.

I would imagine insurance is higher as well.

I want to move to a warmer climate area for health or sanity reasons. Although this has been the mildest winter I can remember, I still don't like the cold.:D

Thanks for the responses and well wishes.

NY has simply become tooooooo much of a grind.

$16,500 per year in real estate taxes. Yep, as in $1375 per month.

Nutz.

That said, it'll be an adjustment, for sure.

Other than moving away from family, my biggest regret is that I'll have to rebuild my dog training business from scratch.

As far as the people I've met in Cary, seems to me like none of them are originally from Cary. :)

I understand what you me. I grew up in NY and then moved. When my parents retire they moved too. My mother told me I don't care where your father goes but I am getting out of NY because of the taxes and the winters. A friend of my was complaining about the taxes here in CA and asked me if I think they are too high. I just looked at her and said no. She was astonished. NY is 2nd on the list as the most tax states behind NJ. The one good thing about Ny is the public school system is ranked in the top 5 in the country as far as services for kids. Although you pay hefty school tax for those services. Good luck with your move.

I meant for what you were paying in NY you can probably find a bigger house for less money.

Most of the daily items are comparable in price but yep, insurance on the car is much less...home owner's insurance is much less...the huge deal is real estate taxes....AND...the killer is, the county is broke anyway. The assessed value of the homes keeps dropping and they keep raising the taxes. well done NY.

It's a fairly affluent area so the dog training business should do well...

And yeah, I agree. HATE the cold.

and my nickel bet is that Nassau County, LI is the highest in NY.

I don't have kids....so the only importance of the schools is for resale of the home...and we all know how resale prices have tanked in the last 3 years.

Plus the other major rip off is mortgage interest.

the typical statement looks like this...

Principal $151,543
Payment - $ 1,200
Balance $151,542

In NC, I can buy the home outright due to the equity i've built. No mortgage.

Yup. On the nosey.

I can buy a better home for half the price.

And that's not an exaggeration.

Least expensive home you can find in Nassau County (where I live) is around$350,000. For that price, you'll get an OLD, run down, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom home on a 60 X 100 lot
