Let's play the hypothetical game for a minute. Miami or Jacksonville calls to make a trade and we move back. Tyron Smith is gone and we decide we are going with a tackle. Out of those 3, which one do you select and why? Is there a consensus #2 after Smith?

Castonzo because he can play OT or OG.

Carimi because he's the best NFL-ready RT in the draft.

Solder hell no.

Carimi is my pet cat. :laugh2:

I have nothing bad to say about Castonzo and would be happy with him as well. I like the mean streak Carimi plays with. I don’t agree with the assumption he can’t play LT he has been playing LT since he became a starter at Wis. When he took over for Joe Thomas and played well enough to win the Outland this past season.

I Agree w this completely..I would also add that I think Castonzo is more likely to be a LT than Carimi

Castonzo doesn't look like he's going to be a successful OT in this league, to me. He looks like he needs to spend a year or two in a training program and then he's going to end up an OG, anyway.

first off I'm not a fan of Smith at 9 or eraly in the 1st and I don't think he is #1 OT. Smith has only played RT and is extremely raw. Not great at reading blitz or defense. He is a project, might be the best overall OT prospect but to raw for what Dallas needs now.

Now I would go with Carimi over them all because he fits what we have to have. A true solid RT who has 4 years starting experence at LT vs better players than any other OT in the draft. Carimi has shown his work, having played vs many 1st and early 2nd round draft prospects and held his own.

Castanzo is #2, he can play RT day one but isn't as strong. Only ipside he has over Carimi is that he is more ready to play LT but we haev Free so thats not a real big need.

Solder, no thanks, the guy is a project and is to weak and bad knee bends to start right now.

na, the only reason he was a OG at the senior bowl was because they has Solder and Carimi. out of the three Carimi is the best RT and Castanzo is the best OG. You have those three guys on your team your going to find a spot to play them all. Castanzo will get some NFL strength in his legs and be fine at OT.

what about sherrod (miss st)?
he played pretty well in the SEC where a lot of the 'dominant' DL play

this^^, Carimi might not have the best feet but he always knows where to be and whats about to happen. I think he reads a dfense better than any of the OTs. We have Free at LT right now so we don't need a LT right now. We need and must get a starting RT right now and Carimi is the most ready to help this team. A few years of coaching and development Carimi might be ready to replace Free when Free has lost a step but thats a ways down the road.

I live in SEC country and sherrod is a raw LT without the killing instinct of a RT. Sherrod isn't a bulldoser and fits more of a Indy like pass happy offense where the QB can get the ball off quick. I like Sherrod and I wouldn't mind him at 40 but he is tier 2 OT for me.

I agree. I just think he can play either spot. I'm sure he would start at RT but his college career he has manned the left side and done so well that he walked off with the Outland. For our need now yes he can come in and play the RT and his ability at LT in a pinch keeps Romo off the ground.

Which player including Smith do you believe improves this team the quickest?

If I had to pick from the OTs than I say Carimi. I think he can come in and start day one at RT and we can kick Colombo to the curb.

At OL for me I think it is Carimi. He has started 4 years at LT and has been very good. I'm just as impressed with his pass blocking as I am with his run blocking.

Ditto x2

I think Carimi could step in Day 1 and be a starter at RT. I wouldn't want him at #9 though. If we traded back around 15-25, I'd take him in a second.

I agree with this. I'd rather take Carimi later.

If it came down to it, I wouldn't mind taking Gilbert in the 4th. I think he's going to be excellent value at that point and he's probably the best options for a swing Tackle that has a pretty decent chance of starting early at RT.

I agree it would have to be mid rd at the earliest.

I'm actually all for trading down to about 15 or 16 and selecting Carimi.

I still think he's the best OT in the draft with the lowest bust potential. Good kid, 4-year starter, college graduate, etc.
