Bucs' June charged with misdemeanor DUI

By Len Pasquarelli

Linebacker Cato June was arrested early Monday, just hours after the Buccaneers returned home following a 31-7 victory in Atlanta, and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence.

According to a Tampa, Fla., police spokesman, June was stopped at 2:52 a.m. after he was clocked at 66 mph in a 45-mph zone. Arresting officer Peter Bucher, in the arrest affidavit, said that as he approached June's vehicle, he detected the smell of alcohol.

June, who celebrated his 28th birthday Sunday, refused a breathalyzer test. But the officer subsequently conducted a field sobriety test and noted in his report that June "exhibited clues of impairment."

At 11:30 a.m., June was released after posting $500 bail.

The incident, details of which were still being sought by Bucs officials, could bring June under review because of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

A five-year veteran, June signed with the Bucs as an unrestricted free agent this spring after spending his first four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who chose him in the sixth round of the 2003 draft. A safety at the University of Michigan, June was moved to linebacker as a rookie and flourished at the position.

One of the NFL's best coverage linebackers who's comfortable in the Tampa-2 style defense employed by both the Colts and the Bucs, June has 54 tackles, one interception, three passes defensed and one forced fumbles in 10 games this season. In the victory over the Falcons, he had a team-high nine tackles and recorded a forced fumble.

In 66 regular-season appearances, June has 417 tackles, one sack, 11 interceptions, 23 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. He led all league linebackers in interceptions in 2005, with five, and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad that year.

if that's his 1st DUI, that's pretty unusual that he had to post bail to get out, at least from my experience, they only locked me up in a holding cell for a few hours, and then let me go after they took me to see the Court Commisioner

That isn't good. I wonder what he was thinking.
