I watched the replay on nflreplay to see how we set Sam Darnold and the Panthers up for the 2 Trevon Diggs interceptions & here’s what happened:

1st interception:

The play before the interception actually helped set this one up. It was 2nd and 1, Jayron Kearse blitzed off the edge - no one picked him up and he tackled the running back in the backfield for a 3 or 4 yard loss (this was HUGE because instead of a 1st down or 3rd and 1 - the Panthers were facing 3rd and 5-ish yards from their end of the field and basically had to pass).

The next play was picked off.. due to a masterful zone coverage shell- Micah and LVE lined up in the A and B gap like they were blitzing, but they dropped back and covered the underneath stuff while Diggs played ‘robber’. The one thing both interceptions have in common are Randy Gregory and Trevon Diggs (both deserve equal credit imo). Dallas only sent 4 and Gregory forced Darnold to step up in the pocket and he saw ghosts, and he threw it right to the robber (Diggs). Easy pick, great play design that wouldn’t have worked if there was no pressure like in years past.

2nd interception (very next drive):

Again the Cowboys lined up with 6 on the line - but this time they sent 6 and Darnold read the blitz but Randy Gregory almost got home for his 3rd sack of the day [once again]. Darnold tried to hit his WR with a quick pass and Diggs simply made a perfect play and caught the ball as the WR also caught it, but Diggs clearly got there first & basically wrestled it away for a lack of a better term.

****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** and Voch Lombardi will probably have in depth video breakdowns of these 2 plays on YouTube today or tomorrow w/ video and their analysis, but pay attention to the Dline on these plays and give a lot of credit to the guys that don’t get credit on the ‘stat sheet’ for these picks & give credit to Dan Quinn for the play design and also I want to mention that this defense is extremely fast. Micah Parsons, Jayron Kearse, and Trevon Diggs have been godsends so far this year (Osa and Randy Gregory have been as well).
