Chidou Awuzie - going into his 3rd year, I frankly can’t say with confidence that I see a future pro bowler in the midst. At best I’m seeing a CB that is just serviceable.

And me, I don’t want to stop with being satisfied with decent/serviceable and not exploring the NFL draft for better.
I’m getting to believe he’s not one to man the LCB role long term and be a significant core of our defense.

I’m not seeing a shut down CB hopeful in Awuzie, but at this point, he’s a guy that future teams will surely be trying to exploit deep and downfield due to his lack of turn n go technique and it’s already an issue with his lack of ball hawk skills for INTs - as evidence by one career INT in NFL , as well as a mere 3 career INTs at Colorado.

Awuzie actually still has the same flaws he came into the NFL with in regards to not turning his head around to make a play on the ball when teams throw at him deep.

And it doesn’t matter if he is that close and hanging onto WRs, ..either the WRs are going to come up with a huge catch downfield,.. or Chiduo is going to be called for pass interference.

He’s tough and aggressive and hes not afraid to put his hat in there vs run, and he’ll have a few well grade games ( ala Saints game in 2018) but he still concerns me.

Speed kills at the position, hes got it, he also plays with a lot of confidence, and is typically a good tackler...as long as they pay Byron Jones we have a "lockdown" on the other side....and with him over there, who are teams going to try to pick on? Awuzie... Hard to come up with 2 lockdowns, if you do, can you afford to keep them both? Hes fine right now. He had a rough 3 plays or so last week and 2 of those passes were almost perfect.

Don't worry with Jones, Brown, lewis's contracts all coming up CB will be a priority. Brown might get an extension if he's cheap enough. Otherwise look for them to add a cheap vet as usual and then attack the draft if possible.

I think Awuzie is a great cover corner. I think we're seeing more bad plays from him simply because teams aren't throwing at Byron Jones.

What I'm trying to say is, Awuzie is getting targeted more than the average CB, so by simple volume of work he's giving up more plays. I still think he's a very talented player.

I thought the defense's left corner should by default be the most attacked, or has that changed with the new rules? Otherwise I don't see why one should continue to distinguish between left tackles and right tackles.

Can’t pay everyone
I’m paying front 7 and safety
Jones will be the odd man out

Id draft/sign a difference maker at 1T
Then trade jones for rd 2 pick and sign Chido and Lewis to extensions

I think he's a solid starting corner and one of the better no.2's in the league. He's not a pro-bowler, and I don't think ever will be. But he can hold his own against no.2 WR's in this league.

I agree we should go get a 1T but I'm not hell-bent on paying a safety because we don't really have one worth paying. What we have is serviceable guys in the position which I'm okay with.

There should be enough money to franchise Jones for 2020. From there we'll see how things turn out since Chido and Lewis won't be free agents until 2021.

I would say a fair assessment. Chido n Jourdan were my favorite CBs that draft year, and "yes" Awuzie has the same issue. When it's time to get his head around and locate the ball #24 malfunctions, and this has been going on for years...you can beat Chido on a 9, and every team targets him as such.

Some CBs/DBs drown in deep water (further away from LOS), so you let them stay shallow (slot CB) which #24 played in college.

@quickccc and others worried about Chido, would you trade Chido Awuzie for Eagles CB Sydney Jones? Both were 2nd rounders if I recall correctly. Maybe drafted the same year. I have seen Sydney Jones and he looks much worse. He played like garbage last night. Same with a lot of CBs out there. Awuzie may not be the shutdown CB everyone would like but he is good, real good. Cowboys are lucky to have him.

Awuzie gave up two long catches which were one handed grabs on very good throws. Lattimore in the Giants game and Parker in the Dolphins game. He had decent coverage, the throw and catch were just spot on.

I’m not saying pay these safeties but I’m of the thinking that a great safety (esp FS) changes your defense. Just think if the great defenses recently in Seattle, Baltimore or Pitt and they all had great great safety play

PFF has him ranked 54th...................lower than Lewis, Jones, and Brown. ...........and he hasn't played against anybody good.

why trade Cheeto for Sidney Jones when Sidney has shown no indication yet of being a competent NFL level CB (since his pre draft Achilles injury) along with issues staying healthy ?
and as I've discussed with several regarding that kind of injury (Achilles) I really cannot recall players that have bounced back to their previous playing form.
it's a chance Sidney Jones ( compared to Marcus Peterson prior to the injury) may not ever be the same player he was at Washington.

and you're just going by the Miami game alone. but he was toasted deep in the Seattle playoff game and Giants Lattimer got behind him for another toast in the first game vs NYG.
and if not corrected, what was a few times could become more and more frequent.. And opposing NFL teams and the better coaches will game plan for you that much more
and come after you that much more. Especially if they see Chidou's confidence begins to wane the more it happens and he's constantly thinking about It .

I've heard coaches, ex-coaches and ex-players say what frustrate a coach that much more is being able to get that player in the best position to make plays..and he still doesn't make plays.
- and if the Fins HC wasn't so dumbfounded, I would have challenged that potential TD catch in the end zone that Awuzie was beaten on but the call was Fins; WR (Parker?) didn't maintain
possession long to be called a TD.
