CB coverage scheme

It seems the scheme Wade brought to us for the coverage units needs to be mixed up some.

The corners play off and to the sideline side of the WR and try to funnel them inward to the safeties.

This protects the deep ball completion, but invites those deep in & out patterns. Not to mention the little flare routes.

If the defense cannot pressure we will see more of yesterday and the GB game.

If we can pressure this scheme can creat havoch, but if we cannot sack the QB, we should at least mix in bump and run?

This has been one of my biggest annoyances all season. The scheme is automatically giving up 10-15 yards whenever a team wants to run the out. Its frustrating as all hell but at the end of the day, it just seems to be enough. Im hoping that Wade will switch up a little bit. I realize that injuries have hampered that a little bit but it looks like Newman is close to as healthy as you would wish for and Henry is getting better each week.

Can we really pay Newman Nate Clemments money and then ask him to play off the ball? Do you really need an 85m CB to play zone? I mean seriously...this defense will not go to the next level until the coaches show more confidence in the CBs....and if the coaches don't show condifence...that tells you what they think about their ability. Which is why I don't understand why some people think we are a defense waiting for the light bulb to come on. We play bend but don't break...which works against teams that don't have weapons...but the Pack or Pats or Colts etc...would have a field day against us.

TNew has played closer coverage than Henry and Reeves all year. I agree, mixing it more would be nice. Having our starting 2 corners close to 100% would be nice as well.

The scheme prevents a big completion downfield. That is the main goal. Just avoid the big play and make your opponents consistently drive downfield for their points. When the pass rush shows up that is a big help.

again...if that is the scheme...then can we pay Newman 85m? Should we invest in a 1st round CB this year? If you are saying the scheme will change when we get better personell at CB, then I agree with you. And that is why I keep saying we need to stop thinking the light will come on at some point....it won't this year. This is the defense we are going to play as long as this is the personell we have. But is you are saying this is the scheme AND this will continue to be the scheme regardless of personell...then again I ask...how much more money needs to be poured into a secondary when the object is to let them catch the ball and then tackle them.

We can play more aggressive when our CBs are BOTH healthy. THey have NOT been this whole season.
