- With Jourdan Lewis out for the year with that foot injury- this could be an opportunity
'audition " for rookie Daron Bland to not only perform well this year in place of Lewis,
but this could also be an opportunity to permanently replace Lewis for good as the primary slot CB.

- Lewis because of his size, and because he plays small, will always be limited as a slot CB,
While Bland has the physical measurements (6'0, 196, 4.4 speed) to play both inside and outside CB.

- And if he continues to display INT ball hawk skills, consistent coverage ability and reliable
tackling ability .. who knows if it evolves into going after even Anthony Brown's No. 2 CB role
as AB, (who is an UFA after this year) seems to be going thru a slump with poor tackling
and receptions surrendered.

- Lewis has one more year on his current contract, to which the team have an option-out in 2023.

Love bland. Pleasant surprise. You are forgetting about Bossman Fat in this equation though.

We'll have to see Fat Man play on defense first .. Bland has overtaken him in overall play time and 3rd CB role at this time.

Thus far special teams has been Boss's biggest contribute this year.

I agree, if he plays well, could force Lewis off the roster. It's very possible both Lewis and Brown aren't back next season due to their salaries.

Are we anointing him already? Let's let him play a few full games at least. He is going to be tested and we will see how he does.
I agree, he had a nice game as a last minute replacement in Washington, now that OCs will know he will be in there all week it could be different.

Not looking to anoint anyone, he is currently a backup with an opportunity to show he deserves more playing time or not.

Did I hear something about Joseph earning somebody snaps this week?

I thought I may have on a Cowboys YouTube show???

Joseph is more athletic than Bland. Bland is just more aggressive, IMO. Aggressiveness always shows up on film.

Bland is faster and bigger than Lewis. Speed and size matters at the CB position.

Geez this isn't the old days a lot of these guys are actually tradable

I'd actually try Brown in the Slot and see how that goes.

Some players play bigger than what their size suggests ,.and some players play faster than what their 40 time suggests ... imo, Lewis is Not one of those players.

At times he cannot match up with speed.. or guys with keen double moves can handle him. Tackling at times has been problematic,
At one point, his role was under scruntiny. But he, like several Cowboys DBs have ballhawk INT ability.

This (turnover skills) is what separates this group of DBs, and even defense overall from several past defensive units of past eras and DC's .imo .

I am in the minority here in that I like Lewis. He was drafted to be a starter and that hasn’t worked out but he is a quality depth guy at a position where you need at least 4 quality players. That said Bland has something. He was one of the best players during preseason and has shown to have some dawg in him. I think Dallas needs more defenders with attitude. I think they will be fine with Bland getting more snaps.
