Heard Gil Brandt yesterday flat out say no CBA this year. With all his connections he probably is right. So this year will be uncapped for sure.
Next year will be the worry- I really hope both sides have the common sense to see that the worst thing of all would be a strike/lockout/whatever. As well as the NFL is doing they should remember that Baseball did real well before their strike and took years to come back, and Hockey never has recovered from their strike.

The Owners want the players to give back and the players say no. Big thing with the owners is the stadium fund. Its pretty clear that no public money is going to be around for stadiums for the forseeable future and a lot of the teams that need new ones do not have owners like Jerruh who can finance most of it, let alone all of it. That money has to come from somewhere. Add to this the fact that some teams just are not going to be able to make a lot of money so they have to be subsidized by the other teams.

To me it looks like the Players are going to have to give ground and I wonder if they realize it has to be done. The Last deal really went to their side and sometimes you do have to give back. The changing financial situation of the NFL means that that has to happen, and I think the owners will not sign an agreement with out it.

I think a team being able to keep a player for 6 years before they become a FA is a good thing.

Yep ... it looks like it's going to get messy.

It seems like it is a good thing for the Cowboys. They should be able to keep a guy like Spears who would more then likely be gone other wise.

I think the NBA has one of the best ideas in their CBA. The Ten Percent rule. If a team could sign its own FAs for ten percent more than any other team it rewards the player for his hard work and rewards the franchise for drafting/signing a player they want to keep.

I doubt it'll ever happen though :-(

Players union lobbying congress to get anti trust exemption removed from owners to avoid lock out. Doubt it happens, too many crooked politicians probably get contributions from NFL owners and associates.

actually I doubt enough in congress care to do anything anyway. Not like they ain't a little busy with all that is going down and trying to get re elected. In that scenario the NFL is WAY down the list of priorities.
