Tony Romo's future at CBS continues to be in doubt as the network has yet to reveal the network's long-term plans for the Dallas Cowboys legend. Prior to the NFL season, Romo announced his plans to temporarily step away from the booth to focus on his health.

Following his July arrest, Romo revealed that he had become reliant on alcohol as the former NFL quarterback attempted to stop taking medications. Did CBS fire Romo following his arrest?

CBS did not fire Romo, but it remains to be seen if the NFL legend will ever return to the broadcast booth for the network. Romo was placed on leave prior to announcing his plans to step away from announcing.

I’ll say it again….I have no idea how these guys command so much cash when people would watch these games anyway. It doesn’t matter at all who is in the booth. In fact I don’t even know who was there last night. I don’t care.

I’ve certainly never tuned into a game I didn’t want see for the commentary lol.

That aside, I feel bad for Romo. The penalty doesn’t fit the crime here but you can’t really pull that in his position. Hopefully he has saved enough cash to be fine, and he will be around again. I have little doubt.

Romo does not deserve some sort of sympathy but I do find it a bit odd how “the shield” draws the line here but will be quick to cut to alcohol and gambling commercials every break. Maybe I’m the crazy one though. A shame because he was really good in the booth those first few years

well its Yahoo so probably second or third hand rumors

Seems pretty clear that there will be negotiations on his buyout. CBS will take the prudent HR stance to show that they are allowing him to get help, etc. in the meantime. The popcorn eaters will hope that it gets negotiated through the media, by my guess is that both the CBS lawyers and Romo's representation are too grown up for that. This isn't a player sprawled on a training table or doing situps in his driveway.

yeah, hypocrisy is what the NFL does best
self righteous about alcohol while taken billions in advertising

yeah no one here wants any more publicity then necessary
unlike those that live for being in the news

There is absolutely nothing new in this report that wasn't already known.

""CBS has said nothing more about the status of No. 1 NFL analyst Tony Romo since CBS placed him on leave, with a one-sentence press release," Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote in a September 14, story titled, "CBS announces next two weeks of broadcasters, with no Tony Romo."

Watt was not good but CBS will force themselves to think he is good just to get out of Romo's contract. And too many people hate Romo that they will also try to convince themselves that Watt is good too. Watt is boring and then when you add him to Nanz, who is already boring and vanilla as is, CBS' broadcasts will go back to being irrelevant. But it's mainly about the money so I doubt they will care.
