Everyone knows that the lifeblood of any successful NFL team is the draft -- the tough part for NFL decision-makers is recognizing when to stay true to this theory and when to reward home-grown products for their development.
Take the Dallas Cowboys, for example. After rushing for nearly 500 more yards than anyone else in 2014, pending free agent DeMarco Murray certainly deserves a big contract. Jerry Jones may see a cheaper alternative via the draft, however. The Detroit Lions have a similar decision to make with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. If Julius Thomas isn't re-signed in Denver, finding a replacement tight for Gary Kubiak's TE-friendly offense may surge to the top of John Elway's priorities.
Much will change between now and April 30. For now, here's how I see the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft shaking out.
27. Dallas Cowboys -- Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia: Set to hit free agency, DeMarco Murray is going to command a lot of money. The Cowboys could re-sign him and elect to fill a hole on defense with this pick but it is hard to imagine Jerry Jones being able to turn down a player with Gurley's talent should the Cowboys be in the market for a starting running back.
