No U.S. Open for Romo

Posted by CBS11

Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo's bid to qualify for the U.S. Open ended quickly today.

Romo played in a local qualifying event at Dallas National Golf Club and looked solid through the front 9 shooting even par. Things quickly turned for the worse on the back 9, as Romo finished his day 8 over par.

This may turn out as good news for the Dallas Cowboys. Had Romo ended up qualifying for the U.S. Open, it would have conflicted with the Cowboys Mini-Camp scheduled from June 16th through the 18th. The first round of the U.S. Open will be played on June 18th at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingday, New York.

He still has the Byron Nelson qualifier to do tomorrow. Wish him good luck.

+8 on the back 9 after par on the front 9 is brutal. I wonder what happened?

Hack joke of the day.

It's one of those you think, but don't say because you then become the joke.

For a moment on Monday, it appeared Romo would have a shot at the sectionals. He made par on his first six holes before an eight-foot birdie putt at the seventh hole put him at one-under par. But that would prove to be Romo's only birdie of the day.

He started the back stretch at even par, but from the 11th hole to the 17th, he had five bogeys and one triple-bogey on the 17th hole.

Towards the end of the round, Romo said it was nearly the longest round of golf he ever played, finishing just short of six hours. And that was only after he completed his usual Monday workout at Valley Ranch, which he had to move up a couple of hours.

Golf happened, lol.

I just saw Cjeka, who had the lead going into the final round of the Players Championship yesterday, come out and look like he never played golf before by shooting a 7 over.

Yeah, if Romo spent as much time working on his golf game as some people think he does, he'd probably be able to do quite a bit better.

I believe that as he started on the back 9, the wind shifted and started blowing from the North,,,, Romo thought it was December and well,, the rest is history.

Even 8 over par on a course like that laid out and cut for an Open qualifier is rediculous. I mean come on. These other guys do this crap for a living. It just goes to show what a truely amazing athlete he is.
