Just reported Murray is confident he will get 8 mill per or more and the open market...he isn't coming back here...

That is a good read. Serious question, when is the last time a big free-agent signing has brought a Super Bowl to any team? I think we've learned that you build, not bye a Super Bowl contender.

This new Jerry, is the Jerry that lives in fantasy land.and the Jerry that is glad that there is no demand from fans or local media, for him to spend money on big time free-Agents anymore.just look at all the praise he's getting for keeping his money and bringing in scrubs. it's unreal what's going on here.

Jerry is not "keeping his money". He spends as much if not more than any other owner in the NFL. The Cowboys are always in salary cap hell because of this. They are finally beginning to see the light.

There is a fine line bw going cheap (T. McClain, Mincey) when their are viable resources available (Waters @ G fits) and drafting well while adding pieces. Expecting real results from this approach is felt through the draft, not the cheaper FAs.

Unfortunately, this team has bare talent on the DL (Craw, Law) so going cheap there won't "work itself out" like it has in other arenas (drafting well) bc the window isn't there to improve much on last years 10 sacks as a team:D. I like this new approach, but a big signing like Hardy wouldn't be "old JJ" bc he is a young enough player with great talent at a need position (adding pieces) that won't be available through the draft (pass rush impact). It makes total sense to "splurge" on Hardy bc the team doesn't have the time to draft DL that would come close to mirroring his impact. If this was the case every year, then it would be terrible planning. But for a team in contention who is really only missing one major ingredient (pass rush)? If not now, when?

Resigning Murray would be old JJ = overpaying the market out of loyalty or past production.

Darelle Revis got $12M from the Pats last season.

Not at that price. Should've extended him in 2012 when he would've been grateful for long term security.

And Jerry should know about overpaying FA from the Parcells years:Marco Rivera, Anthony Henry, Jason Ferguson, Akin Ayodele. pebble and horse tooth Werder won't mention that though!

Darell Revis in NE this past year.. after failing for a decade to win more Super Bowls. Revis put their defense and team over the top. any more questions?

Peyton Manning?:D Kurt Warner

You're correct though, outside of the random QB cases, it doesn't seem to help the team's chances when all said and done, etc.

Sad, just sad. keep praising Jerry for not spending money on top players. and see what it gets you. this is not going to end well in the long run.

They do spend money for top players.

Tony Romo
Dez Bryant
Tyron Smith
Jason Witten

They just rather spend it on their own guys rather than blowing their brains out with guys like Brandon Carr

Because they whiffed on one player doesn't mean they should never be aggressive again.

No, you generally can't go out and buy a whole team and have long term success. That doesn't mean you shouldn't pick strategic times to open the wallet and get a proven, impact player to improve the team, even if it doesn't always work out.

Did it bring a tear to your eye to hear Jerry say that. lol

lord knows he's got a world of experience talking here. :) but in the end i am glad to see him finally make that connection.

now if some of the fans who've been after jones to do this for a decade would appreciate that he now is....

Revis was 1 piece to a team that was routinely in the AFCCG and Super Bowl. Please stop acting like he was THE reason they won the Super Bowl. And he is the only one I can remember in a long time to win a Super Bowl. You do a good job of acting like you know what you are talking about though.

You build through the draft and bargain bin shop in FA. There are exceptions as with everything else. I would pursue Hardy, but would have an 8M absolute max per year for him. That might not be enough to snag him.
