Although the abrupt Memorial Day resignation of Ohio State coach Jim Tressel is not expected to prompt significant ramifications in the NFL, the departure of the embattled Buckeyes sideline boss could result in a ripple effect in the league.

Two sources from the college game and three NFL talent evaluators all told The Sports Xchange they expect the five OSU players suspended by the NCAA for the first five games of the 2011 season to at least consider the possibility of petitioning the NFL for inclusion in this summer's supplemental draft. A source close to one of the players said he "remains committed" to returning to Columbus for 2011, but also conceded the departure of Tressel "puts some things up in the air."

Granted that they all screwed up and have received sanctions by the NCAA, they shouldn't put their educations in jeopardy by doing this.

It's five games, not the whole season. There's still at least six games to improve your game and receive the entire benefit of an education.

More to the point, they shouldn't let Tressel influence their future on the heels of his omissions and in the wake of their own idiocy.

Good...Leave.

If it were up to me none of them would play another down for Ohio St.

I'm guessing the fan response to their return will be less than friendly. They will take guff from students before the official return.

Strange response from someone who just 4 days ago tried to claim he was at the wedding reporting.

It's pretty amusing that you are acting like you guys got a few bad apples that are bringing your program down. This isn't the players fault, buddy. This starts at the top with your AD, to the coach, and on down the line. OSU will do anything to win and I'm sure most other national programs are like this as well. You aren't supporting some righteous program, and getting rid of these players isn't going to make OSU an upstanding citizen. They deserve the death penalty.

1) They can't play professional football without enrollment into a tertiary education for a minimum of three years. Not to mention that they have to be one year removed from their graduating high school class on top of that. College provides that. Most of whom who play football are required to be somewhat studious to maintain their roster spot. You fail on this point.

2) They violated NCAA bylaws by selling their trophies and earnings for improper benefits. They're idiots. They know they couldn't legally do it. They did it anyway? Now they're suspended in the wake of their shortsighted decisions. Again, you're not very persuasive.

3) Drop out of school and make millions of dollars? Technically, they can but afterwards, the NFL yields no obligation to them. No NFL team would rightfully consider someone who drops out of school to play football. If they declare for the draft, that's something different. And no NFL player is guaranteed much of anything in terms of salary or a career span to make that kind of money. That's assuming that an NFL franchise takes a risk on him. Third strike. You're out.

Agreed. Ohio State would take a step back with those players gone. Even with the sanctions unclear, OSU football can move forward.

He's Diet Cam.

He won't start in the NFL. He plays against garbage competition, on an overhyped team, in an overrated conference.

Suspension, departure of head coach, continued NCAA investigation, possibility of further NCAA sanctions ....

Of course some of those players will consider leaving early. They'd be crazy not to.

Pryor (and I'm sure others) have driven about six different cars lately, and by the way Pryor's driver's license was suspended in February. I would be shocked if these players weren't receiving cash as well. What SMU did is no worse than this.

Id take Pryor just to convert him into another position, his athletic qualities are unreal.

The only thing for sure that anyone knows about at this point it those guys sold their own stuff.

They got suspended for it...with one game added for lying about it.

Tressel covered it up...lied about it and lost his job for it.

This in not in any way on the level of SMU.

Now as far as Pryor driving different cars...that's one of the reasons I want him gone now.

Tressel covers up for the guy and gets fired for it and that idiot is showing up the next day for a players meeting in a new car.

I'm done with all of them...and it's not going to be pretty in Columbus if they do play there again.
