"I keep telling ya’ll there’s no competition; if there was competition we would try to get each other hurt. Competition brings out a lot of evilness out of each other, so I don’t like to call it competition." - Cowboys WR Sam Hurd

Aug 3 2009 | 9:38:03 am
Cowboys TE Martellus Bennett on team chemistry. "We don’t have a lot of scientists on the team so I don’t think there's anybody doing chemistry in the locker room. Most of these guys left school early, and I don’t think chemistry is anyone’s best subject."

Aug 3 2009 | 9:45:20 am
“I felt very comfortable. I was with Wade for two years in Atlanta, with the same scheme and same terminology. He’s doing the same thing he did back then. So I had a pretty quick recall of everything once we started installing.” - LB Keith Brooking on being reunited with coach Wade Phillips.

Aug 3 2009 | 10:07:33 am
The Cowboys made a roster move this morning as they began their practice in full pads. OT Andre Douglas was signed to replace OT Michael Turkovich, who had been on the injured list and has now been placed on the "waived injured" list.

Aug 3 2009 | 10:43:41 am
When the Cowboys offense has gone to its "3" WR sets, Miles Austin has been given the nod overSam Hurd in the lineup. Austin joins Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton.

Aug 3 2009 | 11:04:50 am
In 2008, the Cowboys were Top 10 in both "red zone" offense and defense. On opposite ends of the field. both sets of coaches are really hammering points to their players on the technique that needs to be executed.

Aug 3 2009 | 11:09:50 am
The Cowboys first and second offenses have really struggled to begin the "red zone" period. The overall blocking has not been clean.

Aug 3 2009 | 11:20:38 am
In the "red zone" drill, the Cowboys are working out of the shot gun and in their "12" personnel group (2 TE & 1 RB). It creates a size mismatch for the defense with WR Roy Williams, TE's Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett.

Aug 3 2009 | 11:32:04 am
Cowboys rookie TE John Phillips, a sixth-round pick, has been impressive. He has been steady at the "point of attack" as a blocker and he has shown the ability to free himself on routes.

Aug 3 2009 | 11:36:17 am
The Cowboys ' offseason additions of S Gerald Sensabaugh and LB Keith Brooking have paid off early in this team period. Both were in great position to defend QB Tony Romo's passes.

Aug 3 2009 | 12:02:20 pm
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has thrown everything he has at QB Tony Romo and the offense blitz-wise. The offense has had to really be sound to get quality plays off against this attack.

PM Practice

Aug 3 2009 | 4:31:22 pm
The afternoon session for the Cowboys begins in shoulder pads and helmets. Sixth-round selection LB Stephen Hodge makes his first appearance of training camp. Coach Wade Phillips announced that WR Isaiah Stanback (hamstring) could be back at practice on Tuesday.

Aug 3 2009 | 4:44:26 pm
WR Roy Williams on what the Cowboys' offense faced this morning from coach Wade Phillips. "Defense came after us today, and they put a show on for us today, but that’s expected from the defense. I think our defense will be one of the best in the league this year."

Aug 3 2009 | 5:28:22 pm
Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has used a good mix of either RB Marion Barber or RB Felix Jones out of the "one back" set while working in the "red zone" 7-on-7 drill.

Aug 3 2009 | 5:47:49 pm
Cowboys LB Bobby Carpenter has continues to be impressive in the manner in which he goes about his business. He has been effective as a blitzer and physical shedding blocks in the running game.

Aug 3 2009 | 5:51:10 pm
S Gerald Sensabaugh has shown the ability to cover in space, which was something Cowboys safeties really struggled with in 2008. Sensabaugh was able to turn, run and stay with TE Jason Witten in coverage.

Aug 3 2009 | 5:59:48 pm
Cowboys LB Keith Brooking is very hard to fool because his football awareness is outstanding. The offense tried a reverse with WR Patrick Crayton running right to left. Brooking beat the block and stopped Crayton in the backfield.

I don't really like this. Shotgun in the redzone? Why not just put a fb in the backfield along with MBIII and let the big boys up front go to work? Seems like JG's still trying to be cute.

You have to be able to be flexible in the red-zone lining up in the big formation all the time isn't going to work every time.

"Redzone" could be as far out as the 20 and if the defense goes with an extra db they would most likely throw draw plays on them. If the defense stays in base then they will more likely throw. The two TE offense is going to be a big part of what they do.

No need to worry, IMO.

This is training camp and they have to work on everything. They review all the sets and plays that are being kept while also installing new ones.

Wade Phillips mentioned the other day that the afternoon practice would be passing game intensive and this was probably just a continuation of that.
