why have i literally never seen a team do that? why do teams, with the other team in clear position to score, never take their timeouts so they'll have time left when they get the ball back to ACTUALLY SOMETHING WITH THE DAMN THING

Just awful clock management on our part. We have 2 timeouts and they had plenty of time. Why not use our timeouts to save us some time, so that in the event that they do score we still have time to get into FG range?

What's the downside to that strategy? If we stop them, the game's over regardless.

Ending the game with timeouts in the pocket, for all intents and purposes.

I think you have to use those timeouts.
