It's a slow day at work, and with my brackets shot to hell. I figured I'd spend some time putting together a mock draft. In this one, I will use the "Players The Cowboys Have Shown Interest In" Thread, along with what I feel are our biggest needs. U may not find every player I take on the list, just because I know that we don't necessarily know every name that the Boys are looking at. I don't have as much emphasis on the OL, as I believe we may have something in this Brewster kid.

Here are links to my my 1st two mocks (for comparison):
Version 1.0: http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177765
Version 2.0: http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179357

1. Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers (5'11, 193) I make this pick because I believe that Iupati, Pouncey, and any of the OT's we may have been interested in are off the board. Instead we take this speedy CB, who will be groomed to take over for Newman. He also will give us a boost in Special Teams right away. I could see Nate Allen being here, but think McCourty has more value.

2. Sean Lee, ILB, Penn St. (6'2, 236) This is the heir apparent to Brookings, if u read his profile write-ups, they sound a lot alike. Excellent tackler, good enough speed, and a leader.

3. Major Wright, FS, Florida (6', 206) The centerfield-type FS we've been asking for. Has the speed to cover sideline to sideline. AND is a sure tackler in the run game.

4. Marshall Newhouse, OL, TCU, (6'4, 319) Nasty mauler, who I believe will be moved inside to play guard, but could be used as a tackle down the road. I truly believe he can push Kosier in his 1st year.

6. David Reed, WR, Utah, (6', 191) This is the quick slot WR type, we've been waiting for. Good hands, runs nice routes, and is deceptively strong for his build, good run after catch ability. Also could be a return man.

7. Jameson Konz, FB, Kent State, (6'4, 234) He could definitely end up being a steal if he is here at this point in the draft. Will need some coaching as he played TE and LB in college, but all that tells me is that he has some nice hands and he's not afraid to stick his nose into the mix. He may be a poor man's Dorin Dickerson, he did outperform all of Dickerson's numbers at his pro day.

McCourty has a realistic change of ending up as our pick but what do you think about Charles Brown or Rodger Saffold as other possibilities?

I like McCourty and Reed picks, especially. Not a lot of people are paying attention to Reed, but he could be a possibility. Overall though, I think it might be too defense heavy in the early goings

Not bad, but I don't think we go three rounds before addressing the OL.

I'll have to disagree (sharply) on Wright's prowess as a tackler.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I will second that. I would rather stick with Alan Ball as the FS if we were going to take someone like Wright that early. I don't like how he can be shook off as a tackler nor do I care for the fact he does not make plays.

I'm not a fan of Brown, I think he's too small for our system and I just don't like the recent USC tackles that have come out.

Saffold, I'm not sold on. He's moved from a 3rd rounder to potential 1st rounder? Just kinda sketchy to me, he doesn't look that good on tape.

Not bad at all! I just believe we take a saftey, Allen,Burnett and then get a OL in the second, because if we pick one in the first. We then have to give him number one money to sit for a year. I've always held the thinking that if you drafted a Ol in the first.......then he ahd to be blue-chip and he had to be starting immediately or i'd get him in the second. Just a thought?
