For # 10,000 I thought I'd revisit the topic of my first post on the zone (8/10/2005).
I have to admit I was dead wrong. I'm glad I was so wrong.

My first post after lurking forever.
I don't think Gurode is going to give Al Johnson any real competition for the center position. Every year, we go to camp and Gurode looks great. He physically is among our best linemen. But what happens to the guy? Last two years he got benched. He does well in every situation -- except when it counts -- against real defenses that have a legit game plan in place.
Why? My theory is that Gurode isn't very bright (at least football-wise, dude may be a genius in other areas). The knock on him coming out of college was that he "needs time to digest a playbook." Parcells said the other day that Andre does best "with a man in front of him." What does this tell us? He does better when he knows exactly who he needs to block. That might be true of most linemen but Gurode can't seem to make adjustments during the game.
Gurode may have a physical advantage over Johnson. But once we get in game situations, Johnson is going to pull away since he'll call a far better game than Gurode can. Centers need some smarts and I'm not seeing much football intelligence from Gurode.
