In a surprise, the Boston Celtics announced they have hired Butler Bulldogs head coach Brad Stevens as Doc Rivers' successor.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

Stevens, who led Butler to two consecutive appearances in the NCAA championship game, had extended his contract with the Bulldogs through 2021-22.
