Center being shoved back into the QB

As I watched these playoff games this weekend I saw something I am not used to seeing. Qb's dropping back without the Center being shoved back in his face disrupting his rhythm.

I have heard all the arguments about Costa, the pro's and the con's, but don't we really need to address this problem if we are really serious about fixing the line?

Do we have 3 years to wait on Costa to develop his strength to be able to compete at the NFL level?

My hat is off to Tony Romo. That guy has had to run for his life the last few years yet he continues to be consistent.

This is just my little rant.

I say we fix the center position now, not wait and hope it works out.

Center is definitely an issue as well.

But the FA's are old.

I was more shocked by cornerbacks playing the ball. I had forgotten they are allowed to do that. :laugh1:

Costa is simply not an NFL caliber center and he never will be. We should start Killa IMO.

We should definitely give Kowalski every opportunity to start.

We also need to bring in a FA C to compete with both of them.

I'm hoping an extra off season of conditioning will help improve both Costa and Kowalski.

Yeah I definitely think a vet FA C should be added to be a stopgate til these young guys develop. Could also draft one in like the 3rd round to develop.

Costa is strong as he's ever going to get . He was one of the strongest in Maryland football history . His problem is that he just doesn't have the talent . He is a low-ceiling player that doesn't have that much room for improvement . Kolwalski has room to gain strength and improve . So there is a little hope .

Exactly.

It's the #1 upgrade that needs to be made. We currently don't even have an NFL caliber player starting at that position.

We're so screwed if this is correct!

How, did you see him play? He played very well in limited snaps.

Point being that if the fans viewing from the couch can accurately make this call but the people paid to make these evaluations and decisions cannot, then I have no hope that the organization in its present configuration will ever figure it out.

And I mean absolutely no offense to you when I say this.

Romo has been running for his life since he became a starter, not just the last few years.

And just as a fan of well written, thought provoking posts, this is one of them.

Look at Miles who did not play until Roy was injured; and Free did not play until Colombo was injured. Both clear upgrades. But the staff would not give them a chance. The only time Killa played was when Costa was injured.

Like I said........

And the reverse for our D line. While Rat does a great job of splitting the center guard on occasion we need a guy that can push the center back in QB so Ware will quit running 2-3 yards behind the QB.

When a JAG like Kowalski is noticably better than your starting center, you've got issues. Just one more position at which the team is terribly inept.

I think this is a fair argument.

I've noticed many games where Ware is constantly in the QB's drop spot but the QB just steps up from a 5-step drop point to a 3-step drop spot. If the DEs or the NT pushed the pocket back in the QB's face more sacks would have come.

It's crazy to be talking about how you can give a 20-sack player more sacks, but it's the truth.
