For those more adept at looking at film, etc more than me, did we just find ourselves of Center controversy?

Cook was an unsung hero last night given circumstances...did he play at a level we've not see Costa play at, was it similar, did he stink it up and I not notice?

well since we have not seen Costa really play much its hard to say.

And even when he was in last night its not clear how healthy he was..

So its hard to tell

BUT it can be said Cook did about as well as anyone could have expected under the circumstances

Best use of a 7th rd pick outside of the Rat in 10 years

well, no one can really play at the level "costa would have played if only he was healthy"

to hear the excuse makers on this board (in the off season), costa was going straight to the HOF

I agree though that Cook played really well for someone signed 6 days back under very difficult circumstances

I thought Cook did a great job. Bet Tony thinks so too.

I disagree, I thought he was pretty shaky. I'd rather have a healthy Costa at this point.

I thought he did well if you take everything into consideration.

I can't believe the Cowboys had the cahonies to bring him over Arkin since they only had him for 5 days.

We need to sign a vet though.

I'd have to examine it more closely, but I thought he blocked really well in pass protection. He was a little shaky on run blocking and the shotgun snaps. We clearly had to slow the pace of the offense and snap later in the play clock because he was in at center. But, I believe Dallas scored all of their points with Cook under center.

I thought I heard that Arkin was deactivated last night. Screw him though.. we have Cook now and he looked great. With that said, we need to go find another center for depth ASAP.

I knew Costa would have issues with his back. It'll linger all year.

Cook did a decent job. He's got my vote for center this year.

Cook was solid on the line calls and snaps...he got pushed around a little, so his strength is a little suspect to me, but I thought he was pretty good overall.

he is strong enough; more likely the times he got pushed he was not certain at what he was doing. That can only come with reps.

Cook is a big strong guy so its not a question of muscle.

I thought Cook played better as the game went on, which is understandable considering the circumstances.

I question on if Costa's back issue is disk related... If it were I think we would have heard before this.

Sounds like more of a muscle issue.

Cook may be the only healthy Center we have, so the controversy could be that we have no back-up.

I wouldn't say I "knew" Costa wouldn't be healthy, but certainly you had to consider it a strong possibility. I'm glad they have a little extra time to work with Cook, I hope he gets some practice. It's definitely a great thing that they could find a guy like Cook who could come in and be ready, he certainly wasn't great, but he was a heck of a lot better than Arkin had been.

If Costa can come in and be healthy and look good and Garrett decides to go back to him that's fine, but don't paint yourself into a corner with him like they did in the preseason.

they keep calling it a strain- but nothing else

Spasms maybe

they are certainly being mysterious about it

Might explain why they only played costa for two series in the last preseason game. Must have been worrying about this.

Did not even last that long this time

Yeah, hopefully those lingering issues are another teams problems. Costa has zero upside and is a liability. It scares me to think we started our season with him. I'm glad Cook looked good but we seriously need to look for another dependable center to add some depth if cook goes down. Arkin and Costa really scare me at center!

There is no controversy in my mind. Cook is our center.

Wonder what board you've been reading.

Yup, dead on.. I too have seen several people talk about Costa like he was good enough out there. Meanwhile some of us here have been saying he is a liability and can't believe we started our season with him as our center. Looks like one of the groups of people were right.
