CFP thread

Rueben Bain made some money tonight. What a beast! I was hoping to have a shot at him around #20. Forget that.

Aren't teams with first round byes 0-5 in the playoffs now?

Last year all 4 bye teams lost in the second round so it will be interesting to see what happens this year.

So far, it's 1 bye team game and 1 bye team loss.

I’d say all those games are tossups

That is literally what it is and has been. There is no objective standard for making the playoff. A bunch of guys sit in a room and discuss who they think the 2,4, 6, or 12 best are that season. How else do you explain a 3 loss bama team going over ND ? The members of the committee sat around and decided that Bama was the better team.
My issue is if they used the “eye test”, ND would have been in over Bama. ND destroyed everyone down the stretch. Bama looked like crap barely beating Auburn, getting rolled off the field against UGA. They were not great over the last month or so.

Bama got in becauee there was no way they were getting left out two years in a row.

Thus far Ohio State seems to be the over-rated team they are almost every year.
LoL. What a terrible assessment.

They literally win a championship about once a decade, and they are usually decently competitive in most of the other years.

I strongly dislike OSU, but let’s be honest here and not just make crap up.

I’ve said it before; the ACC needs to fix their scheduling and tie-breakers.
Miami was clearly their best team, yet tie-breakers almost kept them out of the CFP altogether.

That league had several pretty good teams but really only 1 worthy of-the playoff.

I’ve seen some mocks with him going first . Maybe we get the other end because we need one

Nah, for years they voted themselves nat'l champions. That all got exposed when it started getting settled on the field. Still every year they are ranked high & praised all season while rarely playing anyone. Look pretty mundane when they finally do.

Yes, since Urban went there they play a much better brand of football and have had some legit teams ... but on a yearly basis ... over-rated. They do themselves a disservice by not playing better opponents. They have talent but they aren't forced to be a championship team playing pancakes.

Death, taxes & OSU & ND being over-rated. It's a good rule to live by.
If you are going back to pre Urban I agree with you, but it's 2026 you may want to get with the times. Literally everything you said other than ND being sometimes over rated is ridiculous.

I said they do occasionally have a legit team so I agree with you maybe once per decade. who are they competitive with in those other years? they usually only play one conference opponent per season that is a true top 30 team. yet they are always ranked as one of the top teams in the country without any strong wins to support it.

How many times have they lost once they got to the playoffs & had to play legit competition?

I said he brought them into modern football and since then they play a much better style of football.

How is it ridiculous? They were ranked #1 up until Indiana beat them. Then they only drop to #2. Given the proof on the field, do you really think they were ever the top or second best team in the country? Maybe Indiana is that good, I can't say cause I haven't watched them. Miami barely gets in the playoffs & a lot of folks didn't think they should be in. Two better opponents, two losses.

I'm saying they are over rated, over ranked. Not that they shouldn't have been in the playoffs. They are given a "historical" ranking every season regardless how well their play looks or the quality of their opponents.

You do realize they won it all last year?

tOSU had a REALLY good team but Sayin was overrated.
He was young but very accurate and yet had issues with passes beyond 25 yards.

Miami sat on short stuff and bet on their pass rush and Sayin's lack of arm to keep them getting beat deep.
It worked.

As a Tech fan I can't tell if I should be confident based on yestyerday's results that the top of the Big 10 was overrated or scared to death of the Bye.
I think I might be both, lol.

They fixed it. It now features a ranking aspect.
But Miami simply had no business losing two ACC games this year.
They had plenty of older, vet talent.
At least with UT you can say they had a lot of young kids developing and thus were inconsistent.
With Miami harder to find any real reason for them to lose those games.
The Big 12 slapped around SMU, Miami should have rolled them.

Agree they shouldn't have lost 2, but Duke also lost 2 conf games (4 overall) was unranked, didn't play Miami head to head…..yet got into the ACC title game ahead of Miami
