See the difference is I actually coached at some of those camps in the 90s....
The "name" players were compensated to appear. The rank and file were not. We peons got some benefits and swag and really good food but seldom cash. But Bam Morris? He was paid to appear. It was his picture on the posters.
I also camped 3 times as a low 3-star type HS recruit. OKST, SMU and Tech.
At OKST future Miami Hurricane and Dallas Cowboy Kevin Willaims (at the time Dallas Roosevelt's QB) made over 1000 bucks jumping over a car the long ways. Not sure how the college players had the money to put that payment together; but I am guessing it wasn't in the standard budget of a 20-year-old OKST football player.
Kevin the next day won the dunk contest, and I do not know how much if any money exchanged hands, but it was reportedly another large amount (by 1989 standards).
