CFP thread

Its an unusual sport bc there are 68 teams playing in "power conference". Then you have the G6 teams which adds another 60. So, when you are talking about playoff, ideally you want the 12 best teams seeded in order of ranking. Another way of stating that is we have the 12 most likely teams to be the best.
I only disagree w/ the number. If you go to 24, then the little conferences can have their place. It's so simple.

+1 +1 +1

I mean seriously.... why doesn't college basketball have this same problem? No one complains about Bryant College or Robert Morris making the Big Dance. The cream will rise to the top.
College football fans are a horse of a different color. Their thinking is often just not logical.

I have a friend who is an Aggie fan. He argued vehemently that 8 was enough, and that no one past that had a shot anyway. That same year the Aggies were 9th. Uhoh. Suddenly everything changed, and he then understood.

And, as shown by this last season, the conference champ games are meaningless anyway. Replace them w/ playoff games.
I strongly agree particularly since their are no divisions anymore. In the old SEC, East champ vs West champ was always a fun game. But with one 16 team division, it makes no sense.

why should the Ivy league winner be in the playoffs?

The stated mission of the college playoffs is to have the best; to have the teams that reasonably can be expected to play for the title.
Its not a participation trophy

LOL my dude you want it to be a participation trophy.
Your team cannot win a conference thus NEVER deserve sot to be int he CFP if we are being honest.
The only way they get in people saying eyeball test or weighing a 20 year out of date recruiting ranking system.

Its right there in the name. Ivy :League Champs.

All thats said I do not want to see every G6 and up conference get bids.

Wow do you practice dump post or does it come naturally?

so on one hand you scream Ivy League Champs and then say not every G6 conference deserves it
Wow you are so good at bad posts!

No, I can just be honest.
For my school a conf winner only party would be the very best option.
Because my school is well positioned to be one of if not the most common P4 winner currently.
But I am not asking for that because I do not think it makes for the best for the game.

What I definitely don't do is post insane backwards takes that apply to my team in reverse.
Notre Dame lost TWO games, won zero conferences. And you cried until your eyes bled that they didn't get in the CFP.

The issue with the tough talking participation trophy crowd is everyone wants one, but they just don't want anyone ELSE to get them.

Alabama is all I have to say to your crap

But since you think Tulane and JMU deserved to be in and Notre Dame not, you have no cred

BY the way. Of the last four that made the Championship game ONLY ONE WAS A CONFERENCE CHAMPION

which made your Posts all the more pathetic

Why not?

BTW, the Big10 has just proposed a 24 team playoff, getting rid of the conference championship games. About time.

One of these days the kids will listen to me...

To explain this as clearly as possible.
ESPN owns the current CFP and up to 2 more games.
SEC (ESPN) wants those 2 more games and are pushing hard for a 16-team tourney.

B1G (FOX) refuse to sign off on JUST those 2 more games wanting to go to 24 and open up 10 CFP games FOX can bid on.

This is why the sides are dug in. Its all about business and not at all what they think is best for the game.
As in all things, follow the money.

Dude I had Alabama out week 1 when their defense quit against FSU.
That means zero to me.

BYU should have been in over Alabama and Notre Dame.
Especially when BYU got hosed last year too.

It's not complicated at all.
Win games, especially top 25 games, without accumulating multiple losses and you get in.
Win a major conference and you get in.
Be the highest rated G6 you get in.
Those are all ways to get in via accomplishment.

Only Notre Dame said let me in because we lost but not by a lot.
Only UT and Bama said let me in because lost a lot but had a lot of good wins.

It worked for one of those three but ALL 3 should be ashamed for even making the arguments.

Win a major conference
Tulane did that
which shows just how stupid your comment is
of the last four in the National Championship game has shown how stupid it is since three of them had not won a major conference including the 2025 National Champion
But we know what it is about with those like you
Its all about how the SEC should only ever have teams in any playoffs

we lost a lot but we should still get in
Now you sound like the CFP looking for excuses

There are 4 major conferences now and Tulane didn't win one of them nor could they.

That said, ND should have been in the playoff ahead of Tulane, JMU, and Alabama. But of those 3, Alabama was the best team. As you stated above, the playoff is not a participation ribbon. If it's got 12 teams, it should be the 12 best teams, and that shouldn't change as the CFP expands.
