I am not sure why anyone considers it "good news" for the Commanders.

The fact is the o-line to end the 2009 season was NOT NFL caliber.

Clifton, while not a 28 year old in his prime elite LT, is a competent NFL caliber LT who would fill a hole.

You can't have 3 rookies starting on the o-line next year, that will be another disaster
Look at your sig. We need to worry about 2012 not next year. Clifton would have been a one or two year stop gap with a three year contract. I'd rather re-sign Levi Jones to a one year deal to play LT and draft another this year or the next. There's no reason to replace Samuels with a left tackle who's a year older.

I think him staying in Greenbay and Bradford likely going #1 to the Rams will force the Skins FO to probably consider, heavily, Okung which, unfortunately, would be a good, solid, smart move for the Skins and the kind of thing I'd like to see them not do. :)

Levi Jones is terrible. He no longer has NFL starter ability. The point is fielding a line that is NFL worthy. Trust me, I know Clifton is just a stop gap that isn't a long term solution.

But how many 28-29 year old starting LT's are out there?

The Commanders cannot have the epic fail o-line being fielded like last year. You need as many quality guys as you can get so that we aren't forced to thrust 3 rookie o-lineman into the starting lineup.

The team won't be ready to compete until 2012, but that doesn't mean you field a team of 14 starters that are rookies, in particular on the o-line

You need some NFL caliber play on the line
