Taco Bill forwarded to me this afternoon a clip from an appearance by Bengals receiver Chad Johnson on NFL Network.

Appearing on Total Access in a video added to YouTube on June 14, Johnson directs to Rod Woodson the one word whose meaning ranges from endearing to appalling based on the skin color of the person who uses it.

Here’s the clip....

....

We’re not sure what to make of it. It’s clearly not inappropriate in the Michael Richards sense. But the lack of judgment that Johnson shows could be enough to disqualify him from having a post-football career in broadcasting, even though he otherwise seems to have the ability to be effective.

Sounds like he might have said, "bigger". But he looks down as soon as he says it, like he knows he was trying to slip it in and get away with it.

Bad Chad :nono2:

It's clear he said 'Bigger' because he was referencing Woodson saying he thought Chad was "a little bit big bigger man". He's looking down because he was looking at his body as if to say, 'What am I skinny or something'.

Wow. PFT really needs to stop even trying BS like that. It's just weak.

WE THINK CHAD SAID “BIGGER”
Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2008, 5:53 p.m.

We’ll admit it. When first listening to the NFL Network clip featuring a colloquy between Chad Johnson and Rod Woodson, we thought we heard Chad say the “n” word. We were influenced by the context and title of the YouTube clip: “Chad Johnson Drops the N Word on NFL Network.”

After listening to it more closely, we think that Chad said “bigger.” But since we don’t ever take down stories (even when we get one wrong on a lazy Sunday afternoon when not many people would notice that it was ever there if it were to disappear), we’ve opted to leave the original story in place, revised to reflect our opinion that Chad said “bigger.”

We’re sorry that, for ten minutes or so, there was a perception on the site that we believed he didn’t.

Wow. This is one of the lamest attempts at trying to make a story, when there isn't one, that I've ever seen.

The stupidest thing about this is that the interview is from a while ago.

Does PFT think this would not have already been a huge story all across the globe if he did in fact use the 'N' word?

I Youtubed this entire interview back on March 18th..

Geez, and I thought only the media liked to stir up controversy. Plus IMO, since I'm caucasian, my opinion would matter very little on this sensative subject.
