Chad Jackson Interview

Elite high school recruits don't always live up to their advanced billing but one who did was Chad Jackson, who developed into a college star as well as a top pro prospect. A year ago Troy Williamson saw his stock soar and ended up being the 7th overall pick in the entire draft due in large part to his showing at the Scouting Combine and this year Chad Jackson enjoyed a similar coming out party in Indianapolis. A sure-fire 1st round pick, Chad was good enough to take some time to answer a few questions.

Scott Wright: What are you going to bring to the NFL team that drafts you?

Chad Jackson: Big plays, size, speed, and the ability to stretch the field.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: What do you feel is your greatest strength as a football player and what area do you feel you need to improve in?

Chad Jackson: Speed, snatch and go, and the ability to make big plays. I need to improve on getting and learning the system.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: What NFL wide receiver do you most admire and who do you think you compare favorably to?

Chad Jackson: I admire T.O. and how he is able to take over a game and Marvin Harrison for his hands and big play ability. I feel I have T.O.’s body and Troy Williamson’s speed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: What is your greatest football moment to date?

Chad Jackson: The Wyoming game (10 catches for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns) and winning the Outback Bowl this year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Who was your favorite college or pro team growing up? Did you have a favorite player?

Chad Jackson: The Atlanta Falcons and Deion Sanders because I am from Birmingham.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: What current pro are you most looking forward to going up against in the NFL?

Chad Jackson: I hope to be the first receiver chosen in this year's draft so I would love to go against the first corner in this year’s draft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: At what point did you realize that you might have a future in football beyond college?

Chad Jackson: In high school.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: One thing people talk about as a possible mark against you is that other top Gator receivers have not necessarily lived up to the hype in the NFL. How do you respond to that and why will you be different?

Chad Jackson: I cannot be compared to anybody now or in the past, I am here because I have worked hard and I will be successful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Who is the best player you have faced during your career?

Chad Jackson: I played against a lot of good players in college; I don’t want anyone to think they got inside my head.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Is there one player at Florida that you see developing into a star, either at the college or pro level?

Chad Jackson: Jeremy Mincey because of his unbelievable motor, work ethic and leadership. He also happens to be represented by my agents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: What do you plan to do once your playing career is over?

Chad Jackson: I will have many business ventures by then and I plan to manage them, as well as get my degree.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: When you get your first professional paycheck what is the first thing you will buy?

Chad Jackson: Buy my mother a car, and I have a financial advisor who is advising me about some investment strategies. I am going to take care of my family but I want to be smart with my money.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: How have you been preparing and training since the end of your college season?

Chad Jackson: My agents have me at a facility down in Davie, Florida, Perfect Competition, and I work out there everyday because I want to be the best receiver.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Obviously it is still early, but do you have any goals in mind when it comes to the NFL Draft (Round One, Top 20, Top 10, etc.)?

Chad Jackson: ROUND ONE, Top 20 and I want to be the first receiver taken.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Are there are specific teams that have shown the most interest in you?

Chad Jackson: Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Miami, Denver, and the Patriots.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Wright: Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions and good luck!

Chad Jackson: Thanks

Good kid.

being compared to troy williamson isn't a good thing- the guy was a bust for the #7 overall pick.

Troy Williamson was definetley a bust. I like Chad Jackson, the kid has big play capability, and loads of talent. Since we already got TO its coo, but if we hadnt gotten a WR yet, i would love to snatch this kid up ASAP!!!!
He has a bright future for the NFL!!! We already got our playmaker in TO, but Chad Jackson will be a great addition for any team that picks him up. I hope he doesnt go to Philly though!!!!

In all fairness, it's very hard to label a WR that only started 3 games as a bust, especially after his 1st season.

If that were the case, we should be fair and label Marcus Spears a bust as well. But no one here (well, not many anyways) would be willing to do that.

I disagree. He wasn't really expected to come in and make a huge impact. It was known he needed time to develop.

He should have doen much more.

Geez you guys are tough. I guess Alex Smith, Braylon Edwards, and Cedric Benson were busts too. Kick em out of the league, no chance they'll ever be good.

Jackson has better WR skills than Wright ever had, and Jackson was ultra productive as well

I wouldn't call 10 yards per catch "Ultra" productive. I never will call 10 yards a catch "Ultra" productive.

This Chad Jackson kid looks like the real deal. He has raw talent, a good work ethic and he seems to have a good attitude. I think he will make a very good player for someone. HeIt is very unlikely that he will be taken by the Cowboys (likely long gone by our pick) but I wouldn't complain if somehow we did draft him. Even though we have bigger needs he has too much ability not to want him here.

And calling Williamson a bust after one year in that circus he was drafted into is ridiculous. Most WRs take a couple of years to develop, even the really good ones. So I will give him a pass on last year and see how he does this year and next before labeling him a bust.

Maybe we should just draft this guy........and be done with it.

I guess you would have needed to see the way they used him then, because most all of his routes were short because of the scheme Urban Meyer plays...the yr before Meyer arrived he avberaged 22.3yds a catch and caught 6 tds

Ya, I saw that. There were 3, yes 3, guys on his team that had better ypc. I don't think he will be any good.

Yeah, well you see, if you a player can't play one game, even if it is first game in NFL, he is bust. Same with First season.

Now we have excellent proof for that since TO turned out to be such a bust after not doing much first three almost!;) Or our James also proved to be such a bust as he couldn't crack starting job till 3rd year.

You see you have such experts on this Board, they can predict how players will turn out in future, with just one play even

Thanksgiving, 2004. Drew Henson became an official "bust."

RIP Drew.
