Dallas Cowboys
Grade: A-

Day 2 draft picks
Michigan TE Luke Schoonmaker (No. 58 overall)
Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown (No. 90)

Day 1 grade: B

Analysis: Dalton Schultz’s departure in free agency meant the Cowboys would be in the market for a tight end this year. Schoonmaker is a fluid athlete who can contribute as a blocker, as well. An injury limited him a bit in 2022, but with the second-round run on tight ends, the pick made sense at Dallas’ spot. Overshown adds depth to the team’s linebacker corps.

I would have loved a guard, but the more I review, the more I like the picks. There was a run on the TE’s and for some reason our staff believed Ferguson wasn’t the game changer we needed. With Schoons high RAS and ability to block, he appears to have good upside.

Start a thread apologizing for being wrong about our picks.

Maybe I am wrong but as I see players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds I get the impression that this is not a deep draft and that may be why late 2 and 3round selections look somewhat dull. Finding a diamond in the rough may be harder this year. We'll see in 3 years when we look back.

The only thing I don't like about the 2nd round pick is it looks like they were picking position and not BPA. I don't think that the Cowboys needed to do that at the TE position but maybe they see something in Ferguson or Hendershot that we don't.

I do agree that you have to judge a draft not by the players taken but by the players taken considering who else was left to take. Teams with high draft picks usually get good draft grades, but they have better choices. Teams drafting at the bottom of each round don't have good choices so when the pick plays the names may not sound that great.

The Cowboys will get Cs from the draft gurus now and looking back in 2 years they might get A+ - or F. We'll see.

The run on TE’s in the second, moved everyone up. No way Schoon would have been there at 90. Didn’t love him at 58 but I get it

When the Cowboys drafted Kelvin Joseph it was the same thought process that led to the pick as this maker of schoons but nobody criticized it because it was cornerback. Nobody said they forced the pick because of position.

Your football utopia is a roster full of cornerbacks with the lumbering hurdler starting at TE.
