He wasn't a superstar, but he would serve as a solid back-up and a decent starter if need be. With all of the injuries, would love to see him wearing the star this season.
 
Sounds like the offseason knee surgery is the thing.. But if healthy seems like they would scoop him up.

The 49ers signed him for in excess of $5M.
There's no way of knowing if we wanted to retain him. The most likely conclusion is that we wanted him back badly, but after his market value rose with his strong play we couldnt resign him

Did he sign with someone?
 
The idea is to have quality depth. Cooper isn't awful,but do we wanna revisit that again?
