Change, Shmange!

I'm tired of the word "change". Corporations have used it for te last 5 or so years to justify outsourcing and downsizing. A political movement just used it to successfully win the USA Presidency by professing to change a corrupt Washington by, as we now learn means, bringing corrupt Illinois-based politic to the White House. And now Jerry Jones and Co. are using the same word to profess fixing the cowboys.

Change, Shmange! "Change" is a buzzword; it's nothing more. It's a marketing message; it's nothing more. It's lipstick on a pig; it's nothing more. Don't believe it stands for real change. A former Marketing Manager once told me that "change is the new norm" because "senior leadership is committed to constant process-retooling". My response was “Well if they ever did their jobs right and figured it out for once then change wouldn't be the new norm, competence would". The guy looked at me like a deer staring in headlights, but now that he's gone, my department has improved drastically.

The point is that "change" for its own sake is not what this team needs; but that is exactly what will come to the Dallas Cowboys. you hear it in quotes where Jerry Jones says with a straight face that he's pleased with Garrett and what he has done to move the football. Then you have Wade say that he'll largely be the same guy, but still change some things; but says maybe he'll start being less nice to the media. Yeah, now that's change!

Do you honestly think that real change is coming, because I don't? I think what's coming is a marketing campaign based on the word “change’ only to sell the new stadium; only I'm not buying it this time. Now that’s change!

If they are going to market a philosophy of "Change" as you claim (I have not heard of this), they screwed it up already by preaching "Continuity."

Wait, isn't this the opposite of what Jerry's been saying since the season ended?

If you haven't been sleeping then you know they have argued continuity WHILE ALSO CLAIMING TO BE COMMITTED TO CHANGE. We will keep the same people, but do it differently next year. That has been the message.

When Jethro talks about "change" what he means is he's going to lie, excuse me, market to us a different way! That's the only REAL change that will happen. Next year at this time fans will still be here trying to figure out what went wrong with the '09 Cowboys.

They're already marketing a philosophy of change because thay are NOT making any significant personell changes. Jerry Jones has already said Phillips, Garrett and Stewart are staying, and the under-producing stars are staying because of their over-proced (i.e. cap-unfriendly) contracts. Furthermore, the message of "change" is being thrown all around by the quotes below from Phillips and Jerry Jones, only quotes from players indicate they're not buying it.

Quotes from Phillips:

"When you go through something like we went through here and the expectations are high and you lay an egg like we did, something has to change." And then this also, proclaiming, "Things aren't going to change unless you change things."

"What I do is going to change," Phillips said, then going on to point out all the things he can change, followed by, "I think you have to do something - I know you have to do something."

Quotes from Jerry Jones:

“Let me say this, I believe Wade Phillips can change,” Jones said after reiterating his belief that keeping the coaching staff intact would give the Cowboys the best chance to remain contenders.

“One of the most positive things about the two years Jason has been our coordinator is we have really moved the ball,” Jones said. “Now I give Tony Romo his due there, but I like our scheme. I like what we try to do. We know where we're going with it, and our players do, too.” (DOUBLE ) (So I guess Phillips will change but the failing offensive scheme won’t  ).

And then you hear from the players who don’t buy into this new philosophy of change:

Bradie James: “If you know a person to be a certain way and then all of a sudden you have an extreme change, I don't know how well that's going to be taken,” linebacker Bradie James said. “Wade is Wade,” James added. “He has his ways. He is tough. I think some of the softness comments get to him. I'm about solutions. I don't know about what he can do to change.” (sounds like James isn’t buying the “change” message either).

Tony romo: "We're going to try to get back in the playoffs and try to win the Super Bowl. That's all you can do. If we don't, OK. :)eek:) If we do, OK," said Romo, apparently forgetting his $67.5 million contract is more than OK. "I've had a lot worse happen to me than a loss in a sporting event, that's for sure, and if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me then I've lived a pretty good life." (Sounds like Romo is content with losing; now that’s change! ).
