Change will come with Stephen in charge

That’s hilarious. Stephen is a chip off the old block. Unless Stephen sells the team, I don’t anticipate the playoff results to change.
I appreciate what DW and Troy said, I hope they're right.
But I share your concern about Junior.
I actually think Jerry has some good qualities that his son lacks, so I fear the situation will actually get worse.

If Stephen were smart, he'd say he intends to hire a professional GM. I don't see that happening, so I see most of the bad continuing, but without Jerry's talents (for building relationships, marketing etc). Jerry earned his wealth, Stephen inherited it and didn't work for it.
I'm not defending Jerry, he is a disaster as a GM, just saying I think Stephen could be worse, sadly. I hope I'm wrong.

What good qualities can you find in a 30 year drought? It is a team sports record of futility for one GM. There is no other in MLB, NHL, NBA, or NFL that even comes close to that record of shame, so I can't really see any "good qualities" in an egotistical tyrant that turned a premiere franchise into a decades long joke, and still refuses to get the hell out of the way.

I have a very strong belief that Stephen is a football idiot and an eventual train wreck running the Cowboys. However two players who I consider among the smartest to ever play here in Aikman and Woodson disagree with me. That does make me reassess things.

I'll probably still agree with myself in review but there will be some reflection first.
Bill Parcells too.

Pretty sure I've read that The Tuna is closer to him, and has kept telling people not to underestimate him. I honestly feel like Stephen was raised on the Parcells GM Tree.

None of this matters though. Knowing Jerry, he'll outlive Stephen and we'll get stuck with Jerry Jones Jr. Jethro is so stubborn he'll hang on to the ground as long as he can before the devil comes to collect Jethro's soul for those 3 Super Bowl wins.

As I said, I think Jerry is a disaster as a GM and I've said so hundreds of times on this forum.
But he resurrected the franchise when he bought it by bringing in Jimmy, and we won 3 titles in 4 years.

Jerry has also tremendously helped the league become the marketing powerhouse that it is today. That's increased revenues for everyone. Even marginal franchises are now worth billions. And player salaries have exploded. Jerry was a big part of that. There is no denying that.

So credit where credit is due.
Jerry is a bad GM, but he's a genius businessman.
Stephen lacks those talents his father has I fear.
I hope Woody and Troy are right though, they know Stephen better than I do.

There are 12 teams that have never won the Superbowl. Four teams have never even been to the Superbowl - Detroit & Cleveland did win pre- Superbowl NFL championships (Superbowl era started in 1966). The other 2 teams are Houston & Jacksonville.

If Parker evolves into a successful defensive coordinator, and I think he will, I'd like to think that he could take the head coaching role here, and Schotty gets the GM role. I wouldn't want to lose Parker to another organization, and I'd like to think they would value Schotty as a GM. I know, wishful thinking, but one can only hope.

Just maybe the kid doesn’t want to burn the rest of his existence on the need to prove he can do what Jimmy Johnson did.

Jerry should be living the most exotic and dream life right now on a yacht with his wife in some of the most beautiful places in the world. A staff of servants. Helicopter to wherever. Nope. Pass. Gotta prove things that no one is gonna buy or care about anyway.

No one is gonna stop him from demanding that “football man” be chiseled onto his cathedral of a grave. Is that what it’s all about?? That’s sad. Really is.

This last deal he did, did they really need that? Did he really need to be involved? Come on Jerry enjoy your life. Your ego ruling you is pathetic.
Jerry would rather be in back alley hotels with women of the night rather than exotic locations with his wife.

Those are HUGE blunders that Jerry can't explain. Remember all the threads in here crucifying Jerry back then? Between signing Dak late, CeeDee late and waiting until the last minute to trade Parsons I'm not sure which is worse. And those are just 3 examples!
Not drafting Randy Moss is Jerry's biggest all time blunder.

Very long article about the transition from Jerry to Stephen. No claims a real GM will be hired. Just that Stephen has no ego issues and will cut out a lot of the nonsense around the organization.

Recommended read.

The approach has irked some former players. Woodson, whose commercial real estate firm rents office space at The Star, the Cowboys’ 91-acre practice facility that doubles as an exorbitant entertainment and business venture, puts it this way: “The team keeps making emotional decisions. They keep guys because Jerry likes them personally. I don’t think that leash will be as long with Stephen.”

Aikman sees it, too. “From my interactions with him, Stephen doesn’t have the ego his father has. That’ll serve him well.”

The franchise under Stephen Jones, Aikman believes, will look and feel more like a typical NFL team, one where the owner doesn’t insist on playing the role of main character. “Stephen will be less inclined to want to get all the credit,” he says. “And I think he’ll create an environment conducive to winning.”

Had Stephen been in charge, Woodson believes, quarterback Dak Prescott and wideout CeeDee Lamb would’ve been extended months earlier than they were, saving the Cowboys tens of millions — but depriving them of months of headlines. Last year’s Micah Parsons trade? Woodson says the talented edge rusher would’ve been shipped out of town a lot sooner if Stephen were calling the shots.

“I guarantee you Stephen wanted that to be a dead issue, and dad let it ride,” Woodson says of the Parsons back-and-forth, which dragged on for months and ended with the Cowboys sending him to Green Bay last August for two first-round picks and tackle Kenny Clark. “I think the off-the-field stuff the organization had to deal with — showing up late, not being a team guy, paying a guy that kind of money when he’s not really a leader? Yeah, that s— ain’t flying.

“Jerry loves personalities, because Jerry is a personality,” Woodson continues. “I don’t think that’s Stephen’s deal.”

Stephen’s deal? Restraint. Rigidity. A weakness, he calls it, if he’s not careful.

“With agents these days, you give them an inch and they’ll take a mile,” Stephen says. He doesn’t like giving an inch, never has. “If a deal’s within striking distance, Jerry will lose this point and this point and this point and if it gets done, he’ll live with it. It’ll eat at me a little more.”

Thank you for posting this. This makes my day. That gives me a lot of hope for the future because I am one of the fans that truly believed when Jerry “retires” it would be business as usual with Cowboys and there is no end in sight.

I take great comfort in Aikman saying Stephen would be better than Jerry and has less of an ego. Also I want to point out how loaded of a statement that is. “Stephen doesn’t have till the ego of Jerry and that will serve him well”. Ouch by Aikman to Jerry. Big ouch. Thank you Aikman
