Changes In Store for Lions Offense

I think that is exactly on the money in every way.

By the way, I have been told we are extremely high on Michael Crabtree.

As am I. He is going to be a player.

I just don't expect him to pull a Desean Jackson and drop that far. I don't see Crabtree leaving the top 10, this year or next.

It seems like.... that story didnt tell us a darn thing. At all.

The point is he is counting down his time in looserville that he has control over but is acknowledging the trade deadline as an open window.

Sorry you feel there's no content...

Williams said. "I know the trade deadline is coming up in two weeks, I believe. My mind-set is I'm going to be a Detroit Lion for the next 13 weeks."

No one is going to give us anything for Patrick Crayton, are you guys kidding? He's just not the type of receiver with much trade value, he's valuable to us because he's been in our system and we groomed him, to another team, he'd be just another okay receiver of the many out there.

If the Cards couldn't get anything for Bryant Johnson, a former first rounder who has been as productive as Crayton if not more so, why would they give Crayton any value? Just to have another receiver?

I think if Roy Williams is actually available, there's no excuse for the Cowboys not to trade for him.

Is there a better alternative that the Cowboys could get in the 2009 draft? I doubt it. And even if there was, that means waiting until next year anyway. Roy Williams can help this team this year.

This team needs to look at receiver for the future and Williams can be that receiver. The guy's just 26 years old and has plenty of good football left, at least six years' worth.

The Cowboys have Detroit's 4th rounder already and I'd have no problem giving it back along with the Cowboys 1st rounder.

It would make one of the league's best offenses the best.

Then the team could concentrate on fixing an underachieving defense while outscoring everyone until that happens.

We have a tremendous football team.

In 2009 we are going to have 12 Draft picks. There is no way on this earth 12 of them, even 9 of them can make this football team.

WR for the future (and for insurance) is a position of need.

I'm nearing the point where I will be shocked if we don't pull the trigger.

In my opinion, it makes no sense not to.

The only reason I could see would be a financial one as Williams' new deal will probably average at least $9 million per year and I'm not sure that number works for the Cowboys.

There could be trouble if he was signed to make more than Owens' 4 year $34 million extension.

But I have faith that Jerry and Stephen Jones can make it work.

Well if we get rid of having to pay a # 1 next year, that would help.

Yeah, that definitely would balance things out a bit.

As well as dropping a few players next season who haven't lived up to expectations.

(fill in your own blanks there)

Hardly, Mike Jenkins signed a 5 year deal worth 9.7 mil with just 3.1 mil guranteed. His contract for 5 years is worth only slightly more than what we'd end up paying Roy per year.

Draft pick contracts are much more manageable than vet contracts. I wouldn't factor our "savings" in losing a 1st round draft pick as a factor in getting Roy or not.

I just don't want to see some kind of a travesty that lands RW in a freakin' Eagles jersey... they do have 2 firsts to burn if they choose to try to land him

They also have Lito Sheppard.

Frankly, I'll be happy with Sheppard gone b/c with only Brown and Samuels left as the starting corners, they have NIL depth behind them(Joselio Hansen is nothing more than a Jacques Reeves clone). And as we all know-Samuels isn't exactly someone who can play press coverage.

BTW-Philly doesn't have the guts to trade away their 1st day picks.

Per Adam's cap thread in The Daily Zone we're at just over 7.3 million under the cap.

That means we could easily sing Williams to a cap friendly long term deal this year and still have the ability to get Ware a deal and sign our Draft Picks.

I simply see no reason not to do this deal.

Before the Skins game, I was against it. But after this game, I'm slowly but surely starting to change my mind.

You saw the last 2 games where when opposing D's double covered TO, our passing game hurt a bit. Sure-Crayton and Austin are nice 2nd and 3rd options, but they don't beat the jams off the line consistently. And it allowed the Skins to apply for QB pressure as well as stack more 8 men in the box to stop MB3.

If we have a true #2 like Roy, then it'll put Crayton, Hurd, and Austin where they'll play to their strengths...the slot.

I agree. I just wish you'd make it happen already. :p

I don't know if they want a WR back or not, but if we offered Crayton I think that means we're going 2nd or 3rd round pick instead of the 1st they are asking for. I can't see them wanting Austin, Hurd, or Stanback.

I don't know. The way Austin has played the past couple of weeks, I think Detroit could be interested in him as a young third receiver. He has shown enough potential to intrigue a team, along with probably getting another young player (Bobby Carpenter) and a high draft pick.

For Detroit to make that deal, the Lions have to believe they need quite a bit of help, so I think it's going to take more than just one pick to swing it.
