Changes In Store for Lions Offense

A second that turns into a first if we make the Super Bowl should be enough to land RW

I don't want to do that either, lol.

We don't need Roy Williams, we need a freakin' DEFENSE!!!!

Really, what we need is to turn our defense loose.

They need to bench Kitna for Orlovski

Move Roy Williams to a team silly enough to overpay for him pronto

You assuming that could happen again?

I can see a 2nd, and our first this year is going to be pretty late. So, I dunno.

All this would be a mute point if Miles Austin goes off this week, or Crayton makes plays.

It would have to be the perfect circumstances for Jerry to feel the need to pull the trigger.

You've been pimping him Hos, if it doesn't go down by next week - I still think he'll be a Cowboy next year. Hes the perfect compliment, hes a #1 talent that is humble. Thats the only reason I think this is going down, we couldn't afford any other 'dynamic' personalities on this team.

I don't think Crayton or Hurd or Stanback or Austin have any bearing on whether we should do this or not.

We will have to address WR in the next Draft. I don't think there is any doubt that has to be the focus given Owens age and this style of Offense. He helps immediately and is not the roll of the dice that the Draft is.

The only reason I have been pimping him is that I got some inside info last year that he wants to come here in the worst way. To this point everything I have "predicted" has come to pass. Either I got real lucky on a lot of guesses or I was telling the truth. I have repeatedly said I'd be just as happy with Boldin and that Steve Smith would be the most amazing fit.

Roy makes sense for several reasons that simply cannot be ignored.

Don't forget. I predicted that today or tomorrow an article would surface that the Lions are open to offers.

Here is how I have gauged my belief in him coming here. Prior to the Draft I was at 80/20 that we'd trade for him at the Draft.

When that didn't happen I was 50/50 that we'd get him prior to the Trade Deadline on the 14th. Yesterday when I posted this thread I added the line about they are going to showcase him a little to try and drive up trade interest. I am now at 70/30 that he is coming here.

After this season if for some unexplainable reason the Lions don't trade him, I will be at 95/5 that we are getting him.

I am that convinced that the info on him I have been given is solid.

It leaves room for it not to happen. I have never once said it was 100% certain he was coming to Dallas. I believe it is more likely he is than he isn't.

i agree 100% and we could still draft a WR in the early rounds, but no draft pick is going to be a proven WR like Roy is right now. I am 75/25 that we will get him before the 14th

There is no question in my mind whether we need him or not. The question now becomes what would we give up.

Way I see it, no player we get in the draft next year (excluding Crabtree if he comes out) - can help us more than Williams could.

Make April come early this year Jerry. Hes 26. I don't see why people have so much faith in our younger receivers.

If T.O. twists his ankle in week 10, would you guys feel comfortable going into a game with Crayton Austin Hurd and Stanback trying to win a game in Philly? Or two games for that matter, they've been given their shot to prove themselves. Their ceilings aren't very high, except for maybe Austin. Otherwise they are fortunate guys that are given man coverage and can't get seperation.

I think that is exactly on the money in every way.

By the way, I have been told we are extremely high on Michael Crabtree.

So would we have to give them back a WR in return? If so, which one?

Fellow wideout Roy Williams has been openly critical of the Lions' game plan

A WR complaining about a gameplan.... thats unheard of........ ;)

I don't know if they want a WR back or not, but if we offered Crayton I think that means we're going 2nd or 3rd round pick instead of the 1st they are asking for. I can't see them wanting Austin, Hurd, or Stanback.

I think that Patrick Crayton and a 3rd would be more than fair enough for a team who isn't going to be able to resign Roy Williams, and has really no hope of winning this season. In the offseason I give them a 1st, and maybe a 2nd day pick. In the beginning of the season I give them a 1st. Beginning of this week I give them a 2nd. Next week a 3rd. And week 6 only a 4th. Every game that they use Roy Williams to play decreases his value, as well as decreases the worth of having him on the team. Id call them right now, offering a 2nd round draft pick.

They get a first day draft pick, as well as a player who can produce immediately, and someone you would have long term.

We would have T.O., Roy Williams, Miles Austin, Sam Hurd... not too bad if i do say so myself.

Even though I was upset with Crayton for a long time after that playoff loss.

With that said, I like him... except for his blabbermouth foaming. BUT if it comes down to it... bye bye.... Hello Roy.

The Chicago Tribune reports looking ahead:

Detroit Lions WR Roy Williams dropped the big hint about his own future that should have piqued the interest of Angelo. The colorful wide receiver's contract runs out at the end of this season, and the firing of team President Matt Millen underscores the front-office uncertainty that could result in Williams leaving town. "My plans are to finish out this season," Williams said. "I know the trade deadline is coming up in two weeks, I believe. My mind-set is I'm going to be a Detroit Lion for the next 13 weeks." Notice Williams didn't say in 2009. If he indeed tests the market, a team starving for a big-play wide receiver such as the Bears would be foolish not to chase Williams with as much fervor as their defensive backs will Sunday.

It seems like one way or another, that he is out of Detroit.
