I don't recall there was any mention that Phillips wanted Cottrell as his DC. In fact as I already posted he was interested in Pagano & Stewart coming to Dallas and one of them would be his DC.

Those guys are pissed over there. I can imagine our board would have had a similar response.

Our board did...when we thought Norv was the lock.

What has happened to Norv's supposed love for Ron Rivera as DC? Me thinks that was either blown out of proportion (gasp!) or Norv is a bit more 'open' to getting guidance from the GM on his coaching hires now.

Whether Norv gets hired or not I think the SD process points out an important reminder. Fans are just that. Fans, and not quite as all-wise as they'd like to think. While I think the doubts about Norv as a HC are well founded I also think the thought of choosing him over other very much unproven candidates was never as absurd as many here made it out to be.

Just because a candidate has never failed as a HC before doesn't make him any more likely to succeed than a failed HC who has the benefit of that learning curve behind him.

I'm not suggesting that Norv is Belichek in waiting. But I'm also open to the concept that sitting in an interview with him for several hours and hearing his specific thoughts and ideas (not all the rehashed stereotypes) might compel a reasonable man to hire him as a HC.

You may be right, but to use a crappy analogy....

If I'm going to drive cross country, and I have a choice between a old car that I know has a history of breaking down, and a newer car that I have little or no knowlegde of....I'm taking the new car.

It's more of a gamble to go with a younger, unproven coach. Personally, I'd rather gamble and lose...unless we're talking about sharts.

Probably has something to do with SD being married to the 3-4. The Cowboys could've easily switched back to the 4-3.

Well, there is a very real part of me that is hoping that since tomorrow is February 20th and Rivera is 100% free of the Bears that he will come be the DC here after all.

Wishful thinking is good for the soul.

I like Rivera, but coming to Dallas under Phillips wouldn't be much different than him being in Chicago under Lovie. Either way, the HC would be the real DC. I think Rivera would like to go somewhere where he can be in charge of the defense.

But, if it comes down to money and we're interested in him, then he could still come here.

Money and Texas roots.

He's sick of pizza and misses BBQ.

Hey, it could happen.

I guess Norv's a puppet no matter where he goes.:laugh1:

He's just not a very good HC. He's only a puppet if his boss forces him to be one.
