The Chargers should've just kicked it deep. And why not take a timeout before the 2 minute warning?

I agree with both because you back them up and could possibly get the ball back with good field position by kicking deep and you call a timeout before the 2 minute warning and then stop them at the 2 minute warning you get the ball back in great shape.
