Chargers | Turner will not be traded
Mon, 30 Apr 2007 12:02:41 -0700

ESPNews reports San Diego Chargers RB Michael Turner will not be traded, according to general manager A.J. Smith.

This may be something to remember at the end of the year. Just in case JJ leaves, and we aren't in place to get McFadden, we could sign Turner. There is no way they tag him, because no one is going to trade any picks for him, just like this year. And plus it would cost them too much just to keep a backup. It is just nice to know that there are going to be other options for just in case.

I heard this news break on Jim Rome this afternoon. A.J. Smith said they were prepared to let him leave if he wishes next off season.

I would dangle a mid round pick and Jones for Turner right now. Then Dallas can go McFadden, Brohm, Jackson, Grove etc.........

That's good, since Turner will be a UFA next year. ;)

AJ Smith wastes another asset again. I'm wondering how he got his rep as this super-genius GM.

I would just like to say, I ****** called this long, and far.

AJ Smith, smart in the draft, a moron in free agency. He shows it again by mismanaging this situation as badly as Brees'.

I know exactly how it's going to work - the same way it did when they franchised Brees rather than sign him to a long term deal. Noone is going to offer more than a second for Turner, which could have been handled by tendering him a second round offer, rather than a higher tender to scare people off. So, Turner will remain a Bolt, he will play through the year, and then he will leave, with the Chargers getting nothing - again. This is nothing but renting for a year.

big shouts out to chocolate lab. Also shouts to bayarealightning, and the ****** who claimed Turner would be our most physically gifted back since Walker.

I'm glad you geniuses decided to rep your position after the draft, when the first three rounds passed, and you got nothing. Yeah - AJ Smith didn't mismanage this at all.

Smith is playing this the right way. They're going for the Superbowl next year, and its all hands on deck. LT has put a lot of wear on his tires the last three years, so it behooves them to have a very good insurance plan.

If some team signs him to #1 RB contract in UFA next year the Chargers are going to get a 3rd round compensation pick out of it. So he's not letting him walk away for nothing, as people keep claiming. They got a 3rd round pick for Brees, and that's probably as much if not more than they would have gotten for him in a trade considering he was damaged goods at the time.
