Shawne Merriman-LB- Chargers Apr. 27 - 9:53 am et

The Chargers reportedly held trade talks with "at least two teams" during the draft regarding unsigned restricted free agent Shawne Merriman.

Merriman's tender would have to be signed for him to be traded. Long-term extension talks between Merriman and interested teams also reportedly "went nowhere." The player formerly known as Lights Out continues to fancy himself as an All-Pro caliber pass rusher. He wasn't close to that in '09.

No way were we one.

Spencer > Merriman last year. And Spencer is younger, not a roid head, and cheaper.

Ware? Not even worth a discussion.

Plus Merriman is a headcase.

Everyone thought we made a big mistake when we took Ware instead (and I was one of them).

Turns out we didn't.

That's rough.

A recurrent problem this time of year is certain people becoming so draft-obsessed that they get pet players in their mind and develop their own "draft board." And when the team doesn't follow that, some of those individuals get all butt hurt and run around whining about everything and get their panties in a wad because their pet player didn't get drafted.

It happens every year, and it's really enough to cause headaches. We could all do without such noise.

Speak for yourself.

My guess for teams in talks would be Miami and Washington.

Usually when people say everyone they don't mean it literally.

This is not true. I was one of the people happy to take Ware. I preferred Ware to Merriman.

But, as I noted above, even that year some people were obsessed with Merriman and were all butt hurt when we got Ware. And some of those people made this place unbearable with arguments over whether we made a mistake.

And look how foolish and a waste of everyone's energy that was.

I'd take Carpenter over Merriman.

Well, actually I wouldn't, but it sounds good.
