Chargers reporter says what Cowboys fans already knew about Trey Lance

The difference is the Chargers got him for nothing but a simple 1 yr. $2 million contract. The Cowboys gave up a 4th round pick. After the 49ers gave up on him it should have been obvious Lance was a long, long shot. But I am not that torn up about it. A fourth round pick is not too much to give up on a former 1st round QB who was still young and inexperienced.
A fourth round pick is nothing to see if you potentially have a future franchise qb. It beats spending a 2nd on Tristen Hill.

This sounds all to familiar to Cowboys fans.

The Dallas Cowboys made a gamble when they sent a fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Trey Lance. It was seen as a worthwhile investment in a potential lottery ticket, but it didn't take long to come to the realization that Lance wouldn't pan out.

Lance signed a one-year pact with the Chargers this offseason following a two-year stint with the Cowboys. The former No. 3 overall pick is hoping to get his career off the ground, but he will have to prove himself under a hard-nosed head coach like Jim Harbaugh.

Unfortunately for Lance, his performance in offseason workouts has left something to be desired. The following quote from The Athletic's Daniel Popper will sound familiar to Cowboys fans.

Look, i hope the kid invested wisely because his career in NFL is probably close to being over. He will play in CFL or UFL next year and he's got a career earnings of like 34million + endorsements he should be living life fine in Minnesota backwoods soon.

Or they liked Purdy better.
Purdy beat him out but the jury was still out on Purdy. There were no assurances he would continue to play well especially when you consider he was a 7th round pick. The fact that Lance couldn’t even win the backup job made it obvious he couldn’t play. When a team moves on from a QB after only two seasons that they gave up the farm to draft them and there hasn’t been any off the field issues with them then it’s obvious they’re a bust.

He should be their starter. He's better than Dak, I heard it here.
According to the biggest Dak hater on this board Lance would be our future sooner rather than later. lol

The NINERS told us who he was and we didn't listen.
Yeah, we made a mistake but at least we didn't give all those 1sts for someone that had done basically nothing in college. Everyone thinks Shanahan is all that and he's not......

Cowboys didn’t even try to develop Lance….no reason at all for Rush to be getting playing time over him.
No reason except for the main reason of Lance not doing well enough in practice or scrimmage to warrant play time. Not sure where people got the idea that players can only develop on game day.

It was a huge mistake by Shanahan and the 49ers, but to their credit they were able to overcome it and make it back to another Super Bowl. However, had they invested those three first round picks wisely they might not be in decline right now. I wouldn’t be knocking Shanahan too much because he has gotten the 49ers to a couple of Super Bowls. One with Jimmy G who’s an average QB and the other with a seventh round pick. Purdy has made up for the mistake they made with Lance.
