CHARGERS EXTEND CASTILLO

Canty??

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 22, 2008, 2:17 p.m.
The San Diego Chargers and their 2008 first-round draft pick haven’t agreed to a contract, but one of their 2005 first-round picks just signed his second contract with the team.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Chargers have signed defensive lineman Luis Castillo to a five-year, $43.1 million contract extension that gives Castillo $18 million in guarantees. The contract locks Castillo up through the 2014 season.
The 24-year-old Castillo is a good player when healthy, so it’s no surprise that the Chargers would want to lock him down. But injuries are a concern, as he’s missed six games in each of the last two seasons.
The next Charger to seek a new deal could be the other 2005 first-round pick, linebacker Shawne Merriman. Last off-season Merriman hired agent Tom Condon.

castillo is better than canty.......atleast at pass rushing. Canty won't get that kind of money.

I liked Castillo coming out of college. Like most folks I thought that Spears would be the better player. I curse the teams who passed on Spears. Of course, if Spears had been off the board, it might have been hard to talk Jerry out of Matt Jones.

Didn't Castillo get popped for roids at the combine?

Yes, and San Diego was criticized for drafting him where they did because of the message it sent. Castillo said he only did the roids to help get back in shape faster after an injury.

He did. But he also impressed a number of teams with the maturity that he showed in owning up to the situation and explaining why he did it.

of course that was on the tail of taking a guy who had steroid issues dogging him - of course, both of the guys they took would go much higher if there was a "do over" -- steroid issues and all

i hope canty and his reps do not think he is any better than ratliff....canty deserves what ratliff got.

Canty is better then most of you are giving him credit for. He is a good player.

this mayB so but he isn't Castillo good. Will should see though Castillo thrived under his second season with Phillips I am counting on Canty to do the same.

Canty's likely a goner. Anyone thinking he'll sign for Ratliff $ is in fantasyland. When you weigh what Castillo got and what Tommy Kelly got, against the type of player many of us think Canty is going to become, then it becomes obvious he has designs on a contract similar to Castillo's and will probably get it.

We can't give every player a big $ contract. Personally, I was hoping they'd keep Hamlin franchised, and then take their chances on finding a FS next offseason.

Canty is a better overall player to me without the injuries and checkered past... I think he'll be able to get after the QB more this year.

what happened to the days when you actually had to prove it as opposed to talking about what you think you are or what you are going to do....he has been here 3 years...he is solid...he is NOT Richard Seymour....he is not Daryl Gardner....he is NOT Leon Lett.....make plays....it's simple....make plays.
