Many here have criciized the front office for not being more aggressive in free agency.

After all, defensively...we have a grand total of one player that has a big boy contract(Lee) and he’s not even playing.

This adds to the intensity of this defense. We have a group of guys that are hungry and fighting for the almighty dollar.

We have this season or next season before this can start to change a little. Most players lose a little bit when they get paid. It’s not always intentional and some of it can attributes to getting older but I’m only guessing that a bank account in the 10s of millions can change a man.

This offseason won’t be too bad. We have Lawrence and Jones if we can work out a good deal but we can kick that can if we choose to.

The 2020 offseason Is when it gets dicey. We will potentially have Jones, Jaylon, Brown and Collins due for an extension..not even mentioning the 3 big skill position players on the other side of the ball with their hands out.

Obviously we will have to let some good players walk and still have to hope to hit on draft picks but if this is truly an elite defense...we have two idea seasons for our peak.

We can still be solid after that, Seattle wasn’t the same once they started paying players but they were stiill one of the better defenses. If this defense is as special as it seems...we have to capitalize on it quick.

That defense is about to get a little expensive if the players continue to play like that. Lawrence, Byron Jones, Jaylon Smith, Lewis, Anthony Brown, and Maelik Collins will soon get paid rather well.

Jerry tends to buy high. New England tends to sell high. Look for Jerry to try to keep as many as he can. I think the Cowboys can keep pretty much all of them on defense and offense based on the projected cap space available now and the projected rise. Will get tight in 2020, as you say.

I think Jerry will lock some of these players up earlier than 2020.

Agreed, but I don't think Jerry tends to buy high as much as he likes to lock up expensive but valuable core players. The only guy I can think that we bought high on who didn't really merit it was Crawford.

That being said, the defense is about to get pricey. D-Law and Byron are getting new contracts for sure this offseason, Byron's isn't going to be a cent under 15 million per season and D-Law's won't be any under 17.

Over The Cap.com has the Cowboys at just under $126 million of cap room in 2020, but of course that will be before any potential deals that get done with Lawrence and Jones on defense and probably Amari Cooper on offense. (Zeke will be on his fifth year option that season.)

I agree, it's going to be tough to keep everybody, but the 2019 season could provide more clarity on who will stay and who will go.

This offseason Dallas will give Lawrence a new deal, will extend Cooper, and maybe Dak. An Alex Smith deal is what im thinking for Dak. 6 years 108mil with 60mil guaranteed. 18mil a season is what im hoping for. Add in incentives to give him more guaranteed money.

But IM hoping Dallas extends Looney and Crawford and Jones.

Woudl love to see an upgrade over Heath.

Add a TE and draft another WR. then get this championship dream going.
