I do not know if this has been discussed but did anyone else think that Smith was injured on a cheap shot?

It was away from the ball (at the end of the play) but the intention of the OT was to be physical not to hurt him. Can't fault anyone there.

A lot of ND fans have called it dirty. I don't really think it was though. Unnecessary? Yes. I don't think he was trying to hurt Smith though... he was just playing to the whistle and being physical.

Probably could have been called a block in the back but the action was already well away by then... which is why the push wasn't needed.

I do understand why some got upset by it though.

I don't think it was a cheap shot in the sense I don't think he was trying to hurt Jaylon Smith, I think that's pretty obvious. However, it was totally a cheap shot in the sense that it wasn't called for and the guy, Decker, could absolutely see the play was over and just decided to get a cheap hit in.

If it hadn't resulted in an injury I think a lot of people would have just written it off as just part of the game, but thanks to the freak injury it seems a lot worse. So not really... but I can understand those who are/were upset about it.

if it was a blind shot after the play--that is cheap--intent has nothing to do with it. and I am not a ND fan--in fact, just the opposite.

I understand... but it isn't like he ran and put a football hit into the guys back with his shoulder or the crown of his helmet. It was just a push in the back.

Plus, I'm not sure it was after the play was over. If I remember correctly it was before the whistle... but I'm not 100% sure without going and looking it up.

To paraphrase a prominent political figure, "What difference does it make at this point?"

Secondarily, if it hadn't happened, would Jaylon be a member of the Cowboys today? Doubtful.
If it hadn't happened and Smith still was a Cowboy... then Ezekiel Elliott wouldn't be because Dallas would have had to use the 4th overall on him.

Exactly. I didn't want to go into all the scenarios, but you're right.

I don't think it was a cheap shot. Also I read that Smith took out a 5 mil insurance policy just I case he got injured his senior year and could not play on the NFL. Hopefully, he won't have to cash in on the policy.

The policy is suppose to cover him for falling out of the first round. It just matters if he can get Lloyd's to pay off. There have been players in the past that have had trouble with them questioning if they would have gone in the first without the injury. Jaylon shouldn't have that question.

It would only be a cheap shot if he was a Cowboy at that time it happened.

He was a player for ND so no...it was not a cheap shot.

<evil grin>

Don't care

I know it seems to be nice and own him now, it just doesn't matter.

Yes, maybe Elliott it's the guy that wouldn't be a Cowboy

This is whole game, he gets hurt at about 14.40.
Had he just stayed down, or when pushed just fell he would not have got hurt.
He was trying to stay on his feet in awkward way and planted his foot with weight in odd place, and his knee just
buckled.
Did not seem to be a cheap shot.
