Cheap Stephen Equals Round 1 WR

Little Enos is seeing too receivers make upwards of $30 million a year. Getting one on the cheap for 5 years is a Stevie special.
It would lock up the entire receiver room on the cheap and they could spend on whatever they need. They could also draft 2 tight ends in this draft which would give them an advantage there also.

This is totally true. The team makes draft decisions based on the cap. Eg. McGovern, Gholston, Joseph were likely drafted to replace a more expensive but still productive and healthy guy in a couple years, even though there was no immediate need for them and other positions could've used the attn

I'd expect more of the same this year--a WR so we don't have pay one, a TE so we can move on from Schultz.

I mean, prices on players talent go up over time. First fans were amazed at 20mil AAV for receivers roughly 4 years ago? The FO gave Cooper 20mil aav.
Now we are at 30mil for the elite guys. I doubt the FO would have no issue giving that if we had a Hill or Adams level guy(and playing at such level)

The cap is set to explode in the next few years. While I'm sure this FO would love to get real talent for cheap through the draft but it's not like owners are losing money with the way the NFL prints money.

The fact you think this is a sound strategy, LOL.

They don't spend money in FA so the idea that would then spend money on other positions because they had cheap WRs is kind of funny.

I want to further address the trenches, but if the player at the top of their board is a WR, I'd be a bit disappointed but not overly ticked off.

Stephen can't make that decision.

It's amazing to me that people can watch that war room video just a few years ago of Garrett and Stephen both wanting to consider a trade down and Jerry immediately shutting it down and still think Stephen runs the team.

Premium (expensive in free agency) positions should be targeted in the 1st round.

Teams get more $ value from successful premium position picks than from lower value positions.

In the 1st round, I would only draft QB, DL, WR, CB, LT, OC & uber elite LBs.

Use later round picks or 'buy' in free agency: OG, RT, Safety, run downs LB, TE, RB.

Franchise Tag numbers give a hint about the relative cost of positions.

If OL was divided with LT and OG in different categories, LT would be near the top and OG near the bottom.
  • Quarterback: $29.70 million
  • Defensive end: $17.86 million
  • Wide receiver: $18.42 million
  • Linebacker: $18.70 million
  • Cornerback: $17.29 million
  • Defensive tackle: $17.40 million
  • Offensive line: $16.66 million
  • Safety: $12.91 million
  • Running back: $9.57 million
  • Tight end: $10.93 million
  • Specialists: $5.22 million

Does that mean that it was Jerry's idea to switch to a 'go cheap' in free agency method of operation?

How much would CeeDee get on the open market if he has 90+ catches and over 1200 yards next season. Those stats should be doable for Lamb as well.

I do think that they are in good shape going into this draft and should get some good players. I do think that they will get double digit wins again this year and win the division and have as good a chance as any team in the NFC. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. There is a difference in spending and spending wisely. As they say, let the cake bake and then taste it to see how it turned out.

Ive never seen someone follow a leadership group that has won nothing in 27 years so blindly. Its insane.

Say it with me. HOPE ISNT A STRATEGY!

I don't understand people that ***** about a 12 win team that is favored to win the division again.

Winning a bad division and winning 12 games means absolutely nothing if you get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. I dont understand people that dont understand fans that want MORE than a good regular season team.

But hey. You want to be Mr. Positivity and say the Cowboys have a great FO and everything is peachy. Go right ahead. lol

How are they in good shape?

They literally don't have a starting LG. They had issues at center. They replaced Gregory at DE with some JAGs. They always need DT help. They are light at LB.

I am not sure how one can look at a roster that actually has gotten worse since the end of the year and think they are in really good shape.

Lol, at *****ing before the season. I love the Cowboys and the draft. I am thrilled at where they are at now with Quinn running the defense and a healthy Micah Parsons on the team. Hopefully, Parsons has another healthy year and Dak stays healthy as well. If that happens they will be in the mix for the NFC.
