EAGLES CONSIDERED TRADING ANDREWS?

Posted by Mike Florio on July 25, 2008, 1:59 p.m.
Various readers tell us that Anthony Gargano of WIP radio in Philly reported on Friday that the Eagles discussed internally the possibility of trading guard Shawn Andrews, who is an unexcused absence from training camp.
Though the team still isn’t calling the situation a holdout, we’re still struggling to understand why he’s not there.

Gargano also reported that Andrews will be fined for his absence. The CBA permits daily fines in excess of $15,000.

The concern apparently is that Andrews has at times been emotional, and the team is apparently getting frustrated.

Andrews was a first-round pick in 2004. He is signed through 2015.

Although they'd never trade him in the division, getting him would truly give the Cowboys the league's best offensive line.

Oh well, at least he's giving them problems.....

Reports are NOT contract-related.

HOWEVER-team sources have said his excuse is "unexcusable", and he's nonetheless subject to fines for each day he misses.

BTW-he was excused from Spring minicamps, and reports came out of there that they were trying out Winston Justice at his position.

Yeah-the **** is starting to hit the fan now.

Andrews Update: Not His Contract, But Not Excused

Updating what we posted earlier, Eagles coach Andy Reid confirms, through a team spokesman, that guard Shawn Andrews is absent from training camp for personal reasons. However, the Eagles did not say the absence is excused. That could mean Andrews will be fined. Teams can fine a player $15,000 a day and try to get back a prorated percentage of their signing bonus.

Agent Rich Moran said the absence is not contract-related, refuting speculation on the Pro Football Talk website.

Andrews missed the final week of minicamp in June, also for personal reasons. Teams tend to be more lenient about letting vets skip a little minicamp. The training camp reporting date does not tend to be flexible; it's kind of like April 15th to the IRS.

All of Andrews' starting o-linemates are checked into the dorms by now. As we type, Jon Runyan is holding court for the cameras, leaning on the tailgate of his pickup. Runyan said he has not talked to Andrews.

Todd Herremans, Jamaal Jackson and Tra Thomas just rolled up in Herreman's flat-black, retro Econoline van with huge tires. Iis this some new trend, like the pimped-out old boxy Impalas?) They had been to buy groceries. They unloaded a lot of Raisin Bran and a couple watermelons, but no Andrews.

Still no Brian Westbrook or Lito Sheppard sighting, but we have more than two hours to the 7 p.m. deadline.

That's about it for now. The gnats out here are really annoying.

Damn, I'm good. As I mentioned yesterday, I have a feeling I know exactly who they're trying to trade him for.

One Anquan Boldin.

That would be a huge deal - for both sides.

Philly would gain the receiver they've lacked but lose a young Pro Bowl guard - arguably the league's best.

Arizona would gain that Pro Bowl guard and further improve their O-line but lose out on the Boldin/Fitgerald tandem.

But if I'm not mistaken, didn't the Cards spend a second rounder on a receiver?

The name escapes me....

Ken Whisenhunt is all about the power running game, he came from Pittsburgh. This is what I was fearing -- this trade would make too much sense for both sides.

I just cannot see the Eagles paying the money that Boldin will ask for .....

Mr. Burns is legendarily cheap.

If this is right, he must have signed a new contract lately. There's no way he got an 11 year rookie contract.

So if he is traded, there has to be some serious bonus money to be eaten.

Andy Reid doesn't play around on this stuff.

Boldin for Andrews makes a lot of sense.

Just watching reports on the 6 o'clock news in the local market, it's being spun that he has some personal problems. No one is talking, but this will be a big blow if it persists.

Interesting. I've never known him to have any off-field problems... Has anyone else?

They have been regretting the whole Owens debacle since day one. They were hell bent on getting a top-notch receiver this offseason and from what somebody said yesterday, even offered up two #1s for Chad Johnson (which I have a very hard time believing).

They will offer up a lot for Boldin, he is the shiznit. And they have a certain disgruntled guard who would fit nicely into Whisenhunt's plans, quite nicely indeed.

It makes too much sense.

I thought it was the 4 skins who were offering the 2 #1s for Chad ????

They (smEagles) offered more money to Moss than the Cheats but it didn't get them Moss.
