By STD, I mean Stupid Thread of the Day. What did you think I meant?

At any rate . . . humor me . . .

Lets say that the NFL draft was being conducted today, but instead of teams selecting from a pool of former NCAA'ers, the NFL teams were selecting current Dallas Cowboys. As if the Cowboys went under, were disbanded, and the players had to be distributed . . . whatever . . .

Assuming the draft order was the same as the 2010 draft, how would you see the top 10 unfold.

1. Rams -
2. Lions -
3. Buccaneers -
4. Commanders -
5. Chiefs -
6. Seahawks -
7. Browns -
8. Raiders -
9. Bills -
10. Jaguars -

Strange thread, but I will indulge you.

1. Rams - LB DeMarcus Ware - he's an OLB, but I am sure Spagnuolo could make a DE out of him.
2. Lions - CB Mike Jenkins - Romo would be considered, but they have Stafford and have to get the secondary squared away.
3. Buccaneers - WR Miles Austin - Romo again, but they have Freeman and a poor WR group.
4. Commanders - QB Tony Romo - Would be a value choice. They could dump McNabb for a better and younger QB. Could also go Ratliff to give them a defensive impact player.
5. Chiefs - NT Jay Ratliff - A weakness in their 3-4. The only issue is Ratliff does not necessarily fit their style of the defense, but he's just too good. Would undoubtedly take Romo if he lasted.
6. Seahawks - WR Dez Bryant - inexperienced, but full of potential in an area in need of an explosive player. Jones could go here too.
7. Browns - RB Felix Jones - a dynamic player for a limp offense. Could go Spencer too.
8. Raiders - LB Anthony Spencer - best player available and would fit as a rusher for them.
9. Bills - TE Jason Witten - an instant security blanket for whomever they put at QB. Would also consider Bennett if they wanted a younger player.
10. Jaguars - TE Martellus Bennett - for lack of a better choice.

About the only other player I think would be considered by any of these teams would be Tashard Choice.

For as much talent as we think we have, it is interesting to look at it this way. Even players in their prime like Witten would last a while. On the other hand, players we feel we could not do without (Davis, Gurode, Newman) probably are more valuable to Dallas than they would be league-wide.

Assuming this draft happened at the same time of the regular draft...

1. Rams - Romo
2. Lions - Ware
3. Buccaneers - Ratliff
4. Commanders - Austin
5. Chiefs - Jenkins
6. Seahawks - Witten
7. Browns - Spencer
8. Raiders - Felix
9. Bills - Free
10. Jaguars - Choice

I believe he said today, so that changes how things are viewed. I doubt the Rams would choose Romo over Bradford, the Buccaneers Ratliff over McCoy and Price, etc. I would also think that Doug Free would not be a top ten choice regardless. Even we are not sure how that will work out.

Here's how I see it:

1. Rams - DeMarcus Ware
2. Lions - Jay Ratliff
3. Buccaneers - Tony Romo (Freeman or not, you don't pass on Romo here)
4. Commanders - Miles Austin (Immediate upgrade, and finally gives them a big receiver)
5. Chiefs - Mike Jenkins (Teams with Eric Berry to form a ball hawking secondary)
6. Seahawks - Dez Bryant
7. Browns - Anthony Spencer
8. Raiders - Felix Jones
9. Bills - Jason Witten
10. Jaguars - Tashard Choice

I was thinking same time as regular draft, but the teams had to draft Cowboys instead of college players. We need to get our imaginary parameters straight, I guess. :D

I think if I made my list again, I'd put Witten ahead of Ratliff. I just realized Witten is the younger of the two.

Ages of Pro Bowl players at start of 2010 season
Gurode 32
Davis 32
Newman 32

Romo 30
Ratliff 29
Witten 28
Ware 28

Austin 26
Jenkins 25

1. Rams - DeMarcus Ware
2. Lions - Roy Williams (hey, they did it once before)
3. Buccaneers - Tony Romo
4. Commanders - Dez Bryant
5. Chiefs - Mike Jenkins
6. Seahawks - Miles Austin
7. Browns - Anthony Spencer
8. Raiders - Felix Jones
9. Bills - Jason Witten
10. Jaguars - Tashard Choice or Barber

There's no way Bryant would go before Austin.

1. Rams - Miles Austin (Bradford is the face of the franchise and now just needs some targets.)

2. Lions - DeMarcus Ware (Ware next to Suh on that D-Line would create havoc for years.)

3. Bucs - Felix Jones ( The Bucs are in love for Freeman which elimates Romo, even though that sounds like the obvious choice. Felix is a game-breaker who would bring some explosiveness to that offense.

4. Redskinks - Tony Romo (Do you think Donovan is the long term answer in Washington? Neither do I.)

5. Chiefs - Jay Ratliff - (The best NT in the game falls to KC at 5.)

6. Seahawks - Mike Jenkins (Combine Jenkins with Marcus Trufant and that is a solid secondary.)

7. Browns- Jason Witten (The Browns cant seem to get a good TE and Witten is a top receiver and blocker.)

8. Raiders - Anthony Spencer ( Spencer is one of the better OLB's in Football is solid aganist the run.)

9. Bills - Dez Bryant (Maybe if they had some WR's in Buffalo their QB's could actually complete some passes.)

10. Jags - Terrence Newman ( Yes, Newman is on the downside of his career but is still capable of locking up top flight WR's. (See Steve Smith)
