I went to two away games so far this year, against the Niners and Patriots. Both games had the opposing cheerleaders at the game, but not the Dallas cheerleaders.

Are the away teams no longer allowed to bring their cheerleaders? I remember no cheerleaders at old Giants games, we couldn't bring them because the Giants didn't even have cheerleaders.

I know its a minor thing here, but who doesn't want to see the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?

i honestly do not ever remember NFL teams taking their cheerleaders to road games. I know in HS and college they do. In the NFL, the cheerleaders are part time. They have other jobs, since cheerleading pays a small amount per game. So when the team goes to road games, I am assuming the cheerleaders are either doing their day jobs, or fulfilling philanthropy obligations in the local/statewide area.

Alrighty then, looks like my next road trip has to be to Dallas!

I don't think NFL cheerleaders have ever accompanied their team on the road. There was one exception in the 80s when the Bears cheerleaders (they had them then) traveled to a road game against a division rival. But I'm not sure that it has happened since. The first game under Jerry Jones, a preseason game at San Diego, the DCC accompanied the Cowboys, did a half-time show, then took to the sidelines in the second half. The following year, San Diego established their own cheer squad. A few years later, the DCC performed at a Cowboys preseason game in Houston. The next year, the Oilers brought back their cheerleading squad. In both instances, I believe the DCC were the catalyst that prompted those other NFL teams to get cheerleaders.

Sorry for the history lesson. ;)

What did the Romans call the groups of women that followed their armies around? I forget.

Little known fact. Camp followers is what they women were known that followed the armies around.

General Joe Hooker, commander of the Army of the Potomac early in 1863 (and beaten badly by General Lee) told his commissariat to ignore the camp followers- since nothing could be done about them.

Newspapers that did not like him called the camp followers Hookers Women. Which got shortened to Hookers.

Beat me to it. Will also add that his reasoning was not because of a moral standpoint but from one of health. He was concerned of the disease that would be spread by "the followers".

Pretty much right. It's more an NFL thing, unlike the colleges. Also I don't think it's a money or sceduling issue of their regulat jobs, college classes, or anything like that. As the team would probably pick up the expenses.

I think it's more of a profeesional courtesy issue, And definately a saftey issue in Philly....

Also, just where would you have them do their cheers at...

At one time Cowboys cheerleader were paid like $15 a game, but of coure everything else was taken care of.

don't know where the cheerleaders would cheer at a road game, there's no section for the visiting team's fans like college. I guess it wouldn't matter for Cowboys' games in Arizona.
