Saw something on TV where they said the police did too good a job on the gangs and the vacuum sucked up pseudogangs/gangsters who were violent without doing 'business'. It's mostly wild *** gangster wannabes running around shooting up the place. Unfortunately some innocents get killed in the chaos.

There's too much money floating around to supply the small time dealers where it works up the chain.

If more people were working they'd have less time to do drugs. I know it isn't that simple but its part of the equation.

I don't think it is corruption. Since the new mayor took over, I think he is cracking down on that. I think it is mostly a certain group of people who live on the south side of Chicago, running around trying to act like they are hard.

Reading the article, it doesn't seem as if all the shootings were on the south side.

If you go to google maps and type in 800 block of South Eberhart, Chicago, and look at the map, anything below of I55, when taking the 90 down, is south Chicago.

The southside of Chicago, is not a good place to live.

I know where those blocks are. Chicago is my 2nd home. My point is having read the entire article, it seems as if the shootings were all over. West side and the north side, as well.

And I disagree about the southside. Not every part of it is bad. Just as not every part of the north side is good. Lived on both sides and so I know.

I never said the north side was a great place or the south side was bad, I said it is not a good place to live. I guess that depends on what you consider bad. I can say it is lower income, so for me, that would be bad. Usually, lower income equals more crime. But, not saying there is no crime in any other part of the city. I am a burb guy, so living 20-30min from Chicago, is good enough for me.

Like I said, I disagree with your opinion, because I do know people who aren't considered lower income who live on the south side.

I get that it's the rep they have and much of it deserved. I used to feel the same way until the past five years or so. I brushed the whole area with the same swatch until I saw for myself.

Nothing wrong with being in the burb, because I know peeps in the burbs too. Just saying I've changed my opinion over time after being the area more significantly the past few years.
